Found November 18, 2012 on Brewers Bar:
Between the normal drudgery of following baseball in November and the annoying lack of non-Josh Hamilton rumors, the last few weeks have been a pretty dull time to be a Brewers fan. However, according to the folks at The Brewer Nation, that might change soon. The always-insightful Brewers blog reported today that the Brewers have been in talks with the agent of free agent reliever LaTroy Hawkins. The 40-year old Hawkins spent last year with the Los Angeles Angels, where he posted a 3.49 ERA in 42 innings. It would be great to see Hawkins in a Milwaukee uniform again, and the Brewers need all the bullpen help they can get, but I’m skeptical about bringing him back as a free agent. Hawkins probably can still prove serviceable in the right situation, but carries with him a fair amount of risk, and just doesn’t have the upside of other arms on the market that could justify the kind of contract he will likely command. I’ll start by saying that I wouldn’t completely be opposed to sign...

2012: Trout’s Rookie Season for the Ages

By Geoff Bilau - AngelsWin.com Senior Editor Of all the superlatives that can be lavished upon Mike Trout’s rookie season, perhaps the simplest and most appropriate is “unprecedented,” because no rookie in Major League history reached the statistical heights Trout achieved. For that matter, no second-, third- or even 20th-year player did so, either. And he did it all as...

Right handed pitcher Zack Greinke could be considered the top free agent starter this off season, and both the Angels and Rangers are expected to bid against each other to land him, but according to Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald, the Dodgers are viewed as the favorites to land Greinke. Earlier this month, we learned that the Angels' top priority this offseason is to...

Mike Trout’s Candidacy, Sabermetrics Continue to Be Misunderstood in Wake of MVP Vote

If you believed in the MVP candidacy of Mike Trout over Miguel Cabrera, then the day since the announcement has likely been a frustrating one. Obviously there was the vote itself, in which 22 of 28 members of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America said that Cabrera was the more “valuable” player in 2012 — the other six did indeed vote for Trout. But beyond the outcome...

The 2012 Angels season summed up by search keywords

Whenever I am struggling with writer's block or just insanely bored, I like to take a look back through the traffic sources for the blog,  Sometimes the keyword referrals provide me with an idea but most of the time they just provide a good chuckle, like the time someone cam across the site by Googling "is Jeff Mathis a homosexual."  That was my personal favorite...

True Blue LA: Brandon Lennox has basically the same thing but from his perspective. Both are interesting reads, and I was considering doing one myself, but this off-season has been/will be a mess, so I’m not entirely...

BEWERS INVITE FANS TO DESIGN TEAM’S SPRING TRAINING UNIFORM

Sports fans are not only passionate about their team’s style of play but also their style of dress, and they are often very vocal when it comes to team uniforms. Fan-created concepts can often be found online, where uniform enthusiasts put their own stamp on team fashions. Despite their best efforts, fans don’t typically have a say in the design process. The Milwaukee Brewers...
