Time to catch up on the Sox after a few weeks of Two-a-Days (hope you enjoyed them).  The big news right now for the Sox is the managerial search which is apparently likely to end in the next day or two.I am not a huge Bobby Valentine fan.  I do not know if he is going to bring the “disciplinarian” aspect to the job and he is enough of an egomaniac that I am skeptical of him integrating into the Red Sox culture. On the other hand, that is arguably the point.  News reports have suggested that the Sox were rather dysfunctional at the end of the 2011 season so shaking things up could work.In Valentine’s favor is he is a guy with a successful track record in a major media market.  My perception is that he was (and remains) pretty well liked in New York by the media and Met fans. The big question here is what this says about the state of the Red Sox front office.  I do not think it is a particularly big deal.  I think it is perfectly reasonable that on the first major decision by a new GM,...

The team is expected to announce Valentine or Lamont as its next manager within the next week, a major league source confirmed to The organization has spent nearly two months looking for the successor to Terry Francona, who won two World Series titles in eight...

Wezen-Ball: A new Bobby Valentine story by Larry Granillo

Rumors have been swirling recently that ex-Mets and Rangers manager Bobby Valentine is among the finalists for the vacant Boston Red Sox position. Terry Francona did not leave Boston under good circumstances, with the ugly news about beer and fried chicken parties (among other stories) having blown through the sports world last month. It's a bit hard to understand why anyone...

Bobby Valentine Appears to Be Front-Runner for Red Sox Job, But No Decision Has Been Made

Bobby Valentine isn't the clear-cut favorite to become the next manager of the Red Sox, but it's starting to sound like it's getting close. The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo was on Red Sox Hot Stove Live on Tuesday, and he spoke about what he's hearing in regards to the managerial search. Cafardo said that Valentine "appears to be the front-runner," but...

Reports have surfaced late Tuesday night that Bobby Valentine will indeed be named the 45th manager in the history of the Boston Red Sox, two months after the biggest regular season collapse in the history of baseball. As a result of the collapse, Terry Francona, widely considered the greatest manager in Red Sox history, lost his job. Valentine was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers...

Joe Lemire: Red Sox take risk with Valentine

The Red Sox are taking two risks by hiring Bobby Valentine, says Joe Lemire. Valentine's strong personality may backfire, and it appears the new GM did not make the final decision.

Good Enough for Gene or Bobby the V

The Red Sox managerial choice is down to Gene Lamont or Bobby Valentine. The Pirates have endured 19 straight losing seasons, and only twice in that span have they reached 78 wins. Both seasons came with Lamont at the helm. Wow. Lamont almost got the Pirates to .500. That’s almost like nearly getting the Red Sox to the playoffs, which got Terry Francona fired. I have mixed feelings...

Red Sox choose Valentine to be next manager

A person familiar with the decision says the Boston Red Sox have picked Bobby Valentine to be their next manager and were working to complete a contract.

Welcome to the Bobby V. Era

The Boston media loves that Bobby Valentine is coming to the Red Sox because he is sure to provide good copy.  As a blogger and not a member of the MSM and I certainly don't share their joy on this day.  I'm not rooting for good copy, I'm rooting for another World Series victory.  If you had polled Red Sox Nation last July and asked, "Who do you want as Red Sox...

Red Sox To Hire Bobby Valentine

Bobby Valentine will become the next manager of the Red Sox, reports Gordon Edes of ESPN Boston (on Twitter). He is expected in town on Wednesday.
