PLAYERS: Max Scherzer
TEAMS: Detroit Tigers
getty images The Max Scherzer trade rumors are getting hotter, even as the Tigers prepare for Game 5 of their ALDS series against the Athletics. Danny Knobler is the latest to report that the Tigers could trade the right-handed Scherzer during the offseason. Scherzer is the favorite to win the American League Cy Young award but his future with the Tigers is unclear. The 29-year-old Scherzer will command a large contract which could be above what the Tigers can afford. At 21-3 with a 2.90 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP there should be plenty of teams interested in Scherzer. A trade this season could create a larger pool of teams to trade Scherzer too but nothing is certain at this point as the Tigers will try to contend again in 2014.

Video: Max Scherzer Escapes Bases-Loaded Situation in Eighth Inning

In what may have been one of the most exciting sequences in Comerica Park’s relatively brief history, Max Scherzer managed to wiggle out of a bases-loaded, no-out situation Tuesday, preserving the Tigers’ Game 4 lead. Scherzer walked the leadoff man in the eighth, then allowed a double to Yoenis Cespedes. He then intentionally walked Seth Smith to load the bases. But strikeouts...

Instead, Doug Fister has taken the mound with the Tigers’ season on the line. His last outing against the Athletics at Comerica Park was in August, when he gave...

Tigers may trade Scherzer this winter before cost skyrockets

Baseball's winter trade market will feature a Cy Young winner. Or two Cy Young winners. The Rays will almost certainly trade David Price. But there's also a very real chance that the Tigers trade Max Scherzer according to sources. Tigers rally past A's, force Game 5

Max Scherzer escaped a major jam in relief and the Detroit Tigers -- helped by two fans who reached out to try to reel in Victor Martinez's disputed home run -- rallied past the Oakland Athletics 8-6 on Tuesday to force a decisive fifth game in their AL division series. Playing catch-up most of the way, the Tigers tied it first with Jhonny Peralta's three-run homer in the...

It's easy to envision the Detroit Tigers winning the American League Championship Series. Heck, if right-handers Anibal Sanchez, Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander pitch to their abilities, the series might not even be close. Much has been made of the Boston Red Sox's transformation in character, and the Sox are indeed a tough-minded group. But the Tigers possess similar...
