Fox Sports Detroit:
DETROIT -- Adam Wilk's disastrous start on Wednesday earned him a one-way trip to Toledo.
After Wilk allowed six runs on eight hits in two innings of Detroit's 9-1 loss to Seattle, the Tigers optioned his contract back to the Triple-A Mud Hens. Brayan Villarreal was called back up from Toledo, but won't replace Wilk in the starting rotation.
"Right now, we have no announcement about who the starting pitcher will be," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said after the game.
The rotation spot belongs to Doug Fister, who is recovering from a strained rib-cage muscle. Fister is due to throw a bullpen session on Thursday, but would probably need a rehab start before pitching for the Tigers.
That leaves Duane Below and Thad Weber, both of whom pitched in long relief Wednesday, as the best candidates to start against Kansas City next Monday.

Detroit -- Detroit Tigers fans no longer have Brandon Inge to kick around anymore.
The Tigers released Inge after Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Seattle Mariners, ending an era that started on April 3, 2001, when Inge made his major league debut at catcher on Opening Day.
In fact, I had a weird flashback to that day, standing next to Inge's locker before he spoke. That first...
Former Detroit Tigers pitcher Jeremy Bonderman says he wants another shot at playing in the major leagues.
The 29-year-old Bonderman had elbow-ligament replacement surgery Tuesday to help him attempt to make a comeback next spring.
He hasn't pitched since 2010 when he was 8-10 and had a 5.53 ERA over 29 starts. His career record is 67-77 with a 4.89 ERA in 193 starts over eight...
Felix Hernandez allowed only a run in seven innings, rookie Alex Liddi hit a two-run homer and the Seattle Mariners went on to beat the slumping Detroit Tigers 9-1 Wednesday night.
Hernandez (2-1) gave up a solo homer to Brennan Boesch in the third and not much else. The right-hander yielded four hits and three walks, giving all of the free passes in the first.
Adam Wilk (0-3)...
Well, it’s not about Brandon Inge.
So, what is it about?
Is it about the lack of a mean streak?
Is there a mean SOB in the minor league system who could replace the friendly Inge?
Yes, there was another Bad Max sighting. But the Tigers scored a relatively healthy 4 runs, with comforting contributions from the middle of the order. Still, they were no match for the mild Mariners...

The Rangers head back to Texas to celebrate Pudge Rodriguez’ retirement, and the Seattle Mariners drop into the D for a 3-game set against the 10-6 Tigers.
The Rangers series may not have been as bad as it sometimes seemed: The Rangers bombed the Tigers in the first game of the series, but after a bad 1st inning in the second game, the Tigers played them even, only giving up 6...
DETROIT (AP) -- Alex Liddi had a career-high three hits, including a solo homer, and the Seattle Mariners beat the Detroit Tigers 7-4 on Tuesday night.
Miguel Cabrera and Alex Avila homered for the Tigers, but it wasn't enough to overcome an early 4-0 deficit. Michael Saunders drove in three runs for Seattle, which snapped a four-game losing streak.
