Manager JimLeyland wanted to make it clear that the injury occurred on the field when someone stepped on Scherzer’s ankle and not later during the night’s festivities. However, the Tigers made a late change and Scherzer ended up taking the mound for the club. While Scherzer was able to recover from the shoulder fatigue that had kept him out for the past week and half, he injured his ankle Monday night while celebrating...

Scherzer won’t start if he isn’t healthy

According to John Lowe of the Free Press, Max Scherzer is scheduled to make his final start of the season on Wednesday in the season finale.  But the Tigers hope that this will not be an issue, because if they clinch the playoffs before then, Scherzer will be skipped in the rotation to give his shoulder more rest. Max Scherzer sprained his ankle celebrating division title

Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer has been sidelined with a shoulder ailment that has never really been given an official diagnosis.  Shoulder “fatigue” has been the term used for what has kept him out of the last two starts.  With the Tigers clinching the American League Central Monday night, Scherzer was supposed to get a tune up Wednesday to prove he was fit to pitch in the postseason...

Max Scherzer injures ankle celebrating Tigers clinching AL Central

Year after year, I watch baseball teams celebrating their postseason berths and division crowns and wonder how more people don’t get hurt. Between champagne and beer flowing everywhere and 40-man pig piles in the middle of the field, it’s a mystery how more players don’t break bones or tear ligaments. Unfortunately for Tigers fans, their team was unable to escape its AL Central...

The AL Central division champions won eight of their last 10 games while the Chicago White Sox slumped, putting Detroit in the postseason in consecutive years for the first time since 1934-35. Max Scherzer Hurts Ankle in Tigers' Celebration, Jim Leyland Claims Injury Isn't 'Serious-Serious'

The Detroit Tigers have the talent to make some real noise once the playoffs start this weekend despite underachieving for much of the season. Much of that success, however, will hinge on whether or not they get a healthy Max Scherzer for October. The big right-hander has battled injuries throughout the season, and naturally, he was bitten by the injury bug yet again on Monday night...

Scherzer's ankle injury could alter Tigers' postseason plans

Manager Jim Leyland and his coaches celebrated the Detroit Tigers clinching the AL Central title Monday night, then came in early to work Tuesday morning. They talked, then each coach submitted a list of players he felt should be on the Tigers' roster for the first round of the playoffs. The talk and speculation over who makes it and who doesn't may continue right down...

Scherzer, Davis turned seasons around

(Eds: With AP Photos.) By NOAH TRISTER AP Baseball Writer Back on June 1, the AP unveiled a list of 10 players who were off to slow starts but were likely to bounce back quickly - some thinly veiled advice for fantasy players, if you will. Game 2012.160: Tigers at Royals

86-73, 1st place, magic # is 1. The Tigers won their 6th game in 7 tries in dramatic fashion last night to move 13 games over .500 for the first time all year, and 3 games ahead of the White Sox with three to play. Sweet October is here. Let’s be honest, the playoffs are a mere formality. While losing 3 to the Royals is not out of the question (2006 anyone?), the White Sox would...
