It wasn’t supposed to go down like this. As August turns to September in this sometimes God forsaken 2012 baseball season, this isn’t whatTigers fans had in mind for Labor Day weekend. The worries were supposed to be the usual for this time of the year: getting the kids back to school; figuring out what to throw on the grill as the outdoor cooking season winds down; wondering what you have with the Lions—playoff contender or pretender? The baseball fans in this town didn’t figure on worrying about the boys with the Old English D sewn on the front of their creamy white uniforms. This was supposed to be a cake walk. There wasn’t a more sure bet since Ali over Wepner, or Nixon over McGovern. The Tigers were a lock to win the AL Central. The bookies in Vegas all but took the division off the board. Yo...

Leyland says more about lineup controversy

DETROIT -- Apparently the discussion over Tuesday night's lineup was not finished. There was some question as to whether manager Jim Leyland told radio play-by-play broadcaster Dan Dickerson that Delmon Young -- who's 3-for-20 against Cleveland's starter Tuesday, Justin Masterson -- asked to sit out the game. Here's what Leyland told Dickerson: "Hes real nasty...

Tigers looking into Elvis Andrus for 2013?

Despite what happens for the Tigers the rest of the season, general manager Dave Dombrowski will probably decline the club option on shortstop Jhonny Peralta and look to upgrade the position. The importance of the position too could be an area that Dombrowski makes a huge splash with considering his track record in previous offseasons with the team. The question though is who could...

Justin Verlander and his catcher, Gerald Laird, wasted no time switching things up Sunday after Chicago White Sox leadoff man Alejandro De Aza stunned the Detroit Tigers ace with a second-pitch homer and one out later Dewayne Wise draped a double near the line in short left field. "My fastball...
