PLAYERS: Cesar Carrillo
TEAMS: Detroit Tigers
The Detroit Tigers say they released right-hander Cesar Carrillo after he served a 100-games suspension for violating baseball's minor league drug program. Carrillo's name was included in a Miami New Times report earlier this year, when the alternative weekly newspaper said it acquired records from a Florida clinic the paper said sold banned performance-enhancing drugs. The Tigers say Carrillo served his suspension and was given his unconditional release. They did say when he was released. Carrillo's suspension was effective at the start of the season. He was on the roster of Erie, which is Detroit's Double-A affiliate. A 29-year-old right-hander, Carrillo was 1-2 with a 13.06 ERA in three starts for San Diego in 209.

Tigers' starting rotation continues to impress

DETROIT Perhaps the most significant point to be made about the Detroit Tigers at the trade deadline was something they did not do. They were virtually the only team in baseball with absolutely no interest in obtaining a starting pitcher. Think about that for a second. Thats a truly impressive statement, and it speaks to the kind of rotation Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski...

Scherzer gets win 16

DETROIT -- During the last few seasons, there have been two Tigers who routinely brought helpless shrugs and awestruck comments from defeated managers and players -- Miguel Cabrera and Justin Verlander. Now there is a third. After shutting out the White Sox for 7 23 innings Saturday, improving his hard-to-believe record to 16-1, Max Scherzer got the kind of respect reserved for...

Lou Whitaker’s familiar number 1, which was just given away, should be retired by the Tigers soon. What number is he gonna wear now? Surely, Jim...

Many people were surprised to see that Jose Iglesias was part of the late Tuesday trade that brought Jake Peavy to Boston. Iglesias was probably one of them. Iglesias had made Boston his home in recent weeks, solidifying his spot on the major league roster with sterling play at third base. But, with the Red Sox having depth at shortstop and third base in the organization — and...
