MLB Injury News:
Octavio Dotel will not pitch again in 2013. After numerous setbacks, Dotel suffered yet another problem during his Triple-A rehab assignment. This time, the Detroit Tigers have decided to call it a season. Dotel has officially been shut down for the year.
Jason Beck of MLB.com says Dotel was forced out of Friday's minor league game with continued forearm discomfort. Tigers' GM Dave Dombrowski says Dotel simply isn't feeling well, and there's no sense in trying to push him back.
"Right now, he's just not feeling 100 percent, so we're basically shutting him down," team president/general manager Dave Dombrowski said. "It's a situation where we don't plan on him rejoining us. His arm's bothering him. He's just not 100 percent."
Dotel has been in the Majors for 15 seasons now. He has played for 13 different teams in his career. To say Dotel is a journeyman would be an understatement. In his career, Dotel is 59-50 with a 3.78 ERA. He made six appearances this season prior to his forearm injury. In those appearances, Dotel posted a 13.50 ERA.

Typically, the Fenway Faithful are responsible for belting out the words to “Sweet Caroline” during the middle of the eighth inning, but a few members of the Detroit Tigers couldn’t help themselves from joining in on Monday afternoon.
Holding a three-run lead against the Red Sox, the Tigers were feeling upbeat about their day, and they chose to commemorate the occasion with...
Detroit Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias faced off against his former team Monday for the first time since being traded away.
He promptly turned a nifty double play then smacked a double off starter John Lackey in the Tigers 3-0 win.
The Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski told WEEI Boston,
“Jose’s been tremendous for us. He really changes our ball...

DETROIT -- The moment Tigers fans have been awaiting has finally arrived -- top prospect Nick Castellanos is in Detroit.
Castellanos, Danny Worth and Evan Reed were called up from Triple-A Toledo on Sunday as the major-league rosters expand to 40 players. This is the first wave of new players, with Luke Putkonen joining the team on Monday, while Jose...
81-57, 1st place, by a lot.
No wonder the Boston faithful gave Jose Iglesias a standing O yesterday afternoon. Besides his double, he was the cornerstone in 3 double plays yesterday, the last of which demonstrated his ridiculous athleticism and baseball IQ. First of all, he pretty easily got to a ball well to the right of 2B. He then managed to contort his body and tag a passing...
The Toledo Mud Hens wrapped up their final home game of the season in style on Saturday night.
The Triple-A squad and affiliate of the Detroit Tigers were leading 4-1 in the top of the ninth inning when the tying run came to the plate with runners at first and third and no outs. The situation appeared daunting for the Mud Hens, but with one pitch the inning was over and the win...
In the land of slugfests there was no slugging.
Just two first-place teams searching for runs — with only the Tigers finding some.
Using Andy Dirks’ triple in the seventh to generate two runs and Austin Jackson’s first stolen base since June 16 to manufacture another the Tigers downed the Red Sox 3-0 at Fenway Park on Monday — getting seven shutout innings from Doug Fister...
Fenway Park is home to one of the best non-baseball baseball tradition. Between the top and bottom half of the eighth inning, Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” is played and sung along to by Red Sox nation. It’s been going on since 2003 for seemingly no reason at all. On Monday, four Tigers joined the Bostonians by swaying and (hardly) singing along with the...
Though most players avoided admitting it, Tuesday night’s game felt like postseason baseball at Fenway Park.
The matchup featured not only the best two teams in the American League in the Red Sox and Tigers, but also the star of each team’s respective pitching staff.
It has been said that this year’s edition of the Boston Red Sox is built for the regular season, but ill-suited...

Jose Iglesias made his return to Fenway Park Monday afternoon after a July trade sent the very talented shortstop to Detroit as part of a three team deal with with the Chicago White Sox.
Iglesias whose known for his glove certainly put that on display once again this time in the bottom of the 6th when he was able to turn what Rod Allen could only describe as a “sick” 6-1 double...
If you wanted to know why Max Scherzer was not able to win his 20th game of the season Tuesday night, just look at the box score.
When Torii Hunter, Miguel Cabrera (back in the lineup after missing three straight games), Prince Fielder and Victor Martinez go a combined 3-for-16 (.188) with zero RBIs, it's probably not going to be your night.
Scherzer pitched extremely well...
8 a.m. ET: Monday’s series opener between the Red Sox and Tigers was not what you would expect from the two highest-scoring teams in baseball. Both starters took shutouts into the seventh inning, with Detroit’s Doug Fister emerging victorious in a 3-0 Tigers win.
Don’t be shocked if you see more of the same on Tuesday. The second matchup in a three-game series between the...
