In the latest shocking offseason move, Prince Fielder is headed to Detroit to join the Tigers. He will only cost Detroit $214 million over nine years.
Fielder joins Albert Pujols as the second giant bat to leave the division. It was pretty much a foregone conclusion that he wasn’t going back to the Brewers, but the Cubs were supposedly in the mix for a while. Going in to the winter, I was hoping one of the two would be out – now they are both out of not only the NL Central, but the entire NL. And of course, Ryan Braun will likely have to sit out the first 50 games of the year.
The Pirates will still see Fielder twice this year – they meet the Tigers in both home and away interleague series in 2012.
