(Brad Mangin/MLB Photos via Getty Images) Given the historical significance of his accomplishment given he was the first major leaguer to accomplish the feat since Carl Yastrzemski won it in 1967, Major League Baseball presented Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera with an actual crown when he was awarded the Triple Crown last October. The crown was then described as follows in a press release (via Eye on Baseball): The crown consists of three raised prongs that highlight his league-leading statistics, each engraved on a diamond. The prongs meet at the top of the crown brought together by a baseball over Tigers navy blue velvet. The front of the crown features a Tigers old English “D” and engraving that says, “2012 American League Triple Crown presented by Major League Baseball to Miguel Cabrera, Detroit Tigers.” The front also features the MLB silhouetted batter and Commissioner Selig’s signature. The back of the crown also features his statistics. The crown is size 7.5, the same as Cabrera’s hat size. And while it is certain that Miguel Cabrera appreciated the gesture (hey, it beats the heck out of a bag of dirt, right?), the Tigers infielder had never actually allowed the crown to adorn his head. That all ended on Wednesday, when with some apparent insistence from teammate Justin Verlander, Cabrera placed the crown atop of his head. Pretty snazzy. It is obviously of higher quality, but if you ask me, besides the difference in color, it sure looks a lot like the crown The Wiz straps to his head in that episode of Seinfeld: Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Nobody beats him, after all. Still, it’s too bad that Cabrera didn’t have that bad boy on him when he recently appeared on Univision morning show, Despierta América. It would have been fitting for him to be wearing it when he posed for this photo: Ha. That pic will never get old.
