The Dodgers are bringing in some much needed reinforcements tomorrow, two big reinforcements to be exact. Andre Ethier and Matt Kemp are expected to be activated tomorrow, with two activations that means two roster decisions will have to be made. Things are about to get really interesting.

Two players will be leaving the 25-man roster, the obvious choice may not be so obvious. The Dodgers certainly have some options to work with but the decision is far from easy.

Scott Van Slyke is the most likely to be sent back to the minors, mainly because the Dodgers don't need six outfielders on the active roster. So with Van Slyke all but destined to depart back to the minors, that means one of the seven infielders figures to be the other.

Luis Cruz still has minor league options left, so it may be time to head back to Albuquerque where he will wait for the next phone call. However, with Dee Gordon sidelined for six weeks, the Dodgers need an everyday shortstop, something Cruz has shown he can do. In twenty six plate appearances Cruz has hit a slash line of .318/.385/.500. Hard to send someone down that is contributing on a daily basis.

Elian Herrera one of the diamonds in the rough for the Dodgers in 2012. His contributions over the first half of the season have been phenomenal. It may seem as though his time in the major has run his course, especially with Herrera immersed in a 7 for 51 slump.

Then there are the more logical options, Juan Uribe and Adam Kennedy. I questioned the addition of Kennedy from the very beginning, since then I've questioned his spot on the Dodgers roster. Unsurprisingly, Kennedy has done nothing to show that his roster spot is deserved. Kennedy is hitting .228/.315/.309 and has a measley 12 RBIs in 149 plate appearances.

Then there is Juan Uribe, a subject I've avoided like the plague. I hate talking about him, because I've hated everything about Uribe since the very beginning. It's one of the worst moves ever by Ned Colletti, so I try to just slip it under the rug and wait for it to go away on it's own. Uribe has actually become a liability on offense, something major league veterans aren't allowed to do long before they find themselves getting designated for assignment. See where I am going with this?

Yes, the time has come for the Dodgers to designate Juan Uribe for assignment. That time has come over and over again, but the Dodgers can't bring themselves to do it because of the financial commitment owed to Uribe. That is in my opinion a non-issue at this point because he has nothing to offer to the Dodgers other than his defense. The Dodgers don't have the luxury of using a DH like American League teams do, so carrying a dead weight defensive player like Uribe is just foolish going forward.

Perhaps a phantom visit to the DL could be in Uribe's future? It certainly would be the easiest way to deal with the issue, allow him some time off, and give the Dodgers time to figure out what direction they feel is best. I say DFA the guy already, cut your losses, and move on.

Uribe has been a major bust in his one-and-a-half seasons with the Dodgers, hitting .201, five homers, 41 RBIs, and has done absolutely nothing to show he will be breaking out of it anytime soon. He's struggled to stay in baseball shape, causing a slew of injuries. To date, Uribe has played in only 122 games for the Dodgers. He went into to the All-Star break battling a sore ankle, while also in the midst of an 0-for-27 slump. I don't think anyone would blame the Dodgers for releasing Uribe at this point, I know I wouldn't.
