POWER PLAY: Ike Davis will need to flex some more muscle in critical homestand for the Mets. Mets Season Prospects Coming off a series sweep by the Atlanta Braves that left nothing undamaged and a series loss to the Washington Nationals, the New York Mets season appears to be in jeopardy. While the Mets started the season with a respectable win-loss ratio (46-43) at the All-Star break, the second half is off to a rocky start. It is too soon to call the season over at this point, but as the days slip away, it is definitely becoming crunch time. The Fan Base While the fans have stayed loyal to the team, it is not surprising that the tumultuous start to the second half of the season is giving many Mets loyalists an unwelcome reminder of last year’s season. In 2011, the team had an almost similar and impressive 46-45 start to the season before imploding in the second half and spending the last two months at ten games below .500, it is not surprising that even the faithful are developing...

Can the Mets count on Johan Santana in the second half?

For once, the Mets’ beleaguered bullpen cannot be blamed for another tough, gut-wrenching defeat, when on Friday night the Mets fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-6. The Mets have now dropped eight out of their last ten. Ironically, it was the Mets’ bullpen that kept the team in Friday’s affair, as four Mets’ relievers combined to pitch six innings while allowing only one...

Harvey in the bullpen could be Mets best bet in 2012

Despite management’s decision to have Miguel Batista start on Saturday, there is a great outcry to have 2010 first round pick Matt Harvey called up and fill the void in the rotation left by Dillon Gee’s blood clot injury. The logic makes sense. Harvey has handled triple-A pretty well and the Mets seem to lack the depth necessary to effectively fill in for Gee. Even if Gee was...

Santana & The Soggy Mets: Mets Lineup V. Dodgers - July 20, 2012

If the Mets get this game in tonight, it will be against the Dodgers. With the weather being absolutely cloudy and wet in NY, chances are they might be a future double header. Tonight Mr. No-no will take the hill against the Dodgers, and hopefully Johan and the Mets can build upon the win yesterday that halted a 6 game losing streak. Now is the time for the Mets to put together a nice 6 or 7

Mets To Host Star Wars Night This Monday At Citi Field

METS TO HOST STAR WARS™ NIGHT THIS MONDAY, JULY 23 AT CITI FIELD Pre-Game Photo Ops with Characters and Costume Contest in Bullpen Plaza. FLUSHING, N.Y., July 19, 2012 – The New York Mets today announced they are teaming up with Lucasfilm Ltd. to host the second annual Star Wars Night at Citi Field this Monday, July 23 when the Mets host the Washington Nationals at 7:10...

For the Mets, relief may have to come from within

It’s no secret that the Mets bullpen has been problematic all season long.  As a whole the Mets are the only team with a bullpen ERA over 5 and rank dead last in the majors in that category. So with the trade deadline approaching and the Mets ship heading in a sinking direction, fans have called for the front office to plug the holes.  This is an understandable cry for help...

Are You Worried About Johan Santana?

I’m sure you all remember the tearful post-game presser by Terry Collins on the night of June 1, 2012. That was the historic date of Johan Santana’s no-hitter, the first in Mets franchise history. Collins had originally intended to cap Johan’s pitches at 115, and you could se him agonizing after every pitch that went beyond that. At one point, Collins walked to the mound to...

It seems so long ago that the Mets were fun to watch

New York Mets manager Terry Collins called a players-only meeting prior to Wednesday night’s game versus the Washington Nationals and his team responded by dropping their sixth straight game and nine out of their last ten, remaining winless in the second half. With the 4-3 loss to the Nats, NY dropped to 46-45 and 5 games behind the NL Wild Card leaders: It seems so long ago that...

Thoughts on tonight’s starting lineup

1) Ruben Tejada SS 2) Daniel Murphy 2B 3) David Wright 3B 4) Ike Davis 1B 5) Lucas Duda RF 6) Jason Bay LF 7) Andres Torres CF 8) Josh Thole C 9) Johan Santana LHP Obviously the biggest story tonight is if Johan Santana can get back to his pre-no-hitter self. Since throwing the franchises first no-hitter Santana is 3-4 with a 5.67 ERA in 39 innings pitched. Terry...

Mets Second Half Preview

By SBRForum.com The Mets have been quite profitable in the MLB odds through the first half of the season.  Should we expect more of the same in the second half? As of now New York sits in third place in the NL East, behind the upstart Washington Nationals and the Atlanta Braves. They’re 26-20 at home and 21-25 on the road for a total record of 47-45 as of July 20. And, while the...

Jerry Seinfeld tweets about Mets home run that goes over Seinfeld advertisement (Video)

If you were paying attention last night to comedian Jerry Seinfeld's Twitter account, you might have heard about this incident. During last night's Mets/Nationals game in Washington D.C, Mets slugger David Wright hit a home run that traveled over the right field wall. In the right field wall, a video board had an advertisement for reruns of Seinfeld on the local...

Bullpen Blows Another One as Mets Fall to Nationals 5-4.

The Mets needed a big-time performance from Jon Niese tonight. They got that but found themselves on the wrong end of a pitchers duel for eight innings. Down 2-0 in the top of the ninth, Jordany Valdespin sent a Tyler Clippard pitch into the right-centerfield seats for a three-run homer to give the Mets a 3-2 lead. Then the Met bullpen showed their true colors...

Alderson Has Visions Of Valdespin In Center

Earlier this week Mets GM Sandy Alderson made some very interesting comments regarding Jordanny Valdespin. As a guest with Mike Francesa on WFAN Alderson made the following comments in regards Jordanny’s versatility and trying to find a spot for him in the lineup. He said ”dreaming a bit, if Valdespin could play center we might have something. “He brings athleticism, he‘s...

Video: Mike Piazza’s former playmate wife thinks Roger Clemens had roid rage

Sometimes we get an excellent sound bite from athletes, but even less frequently, we get it from their wives. Former New York Mets great Mike Piazza and his former playmate wife Alicia Rickter were caught on camera by TMZ and asked about whether or not they believe if Roger Clemens was using performance-enhancing drugs during [...]
