One of the saddest things in professional sports for a fan to witness is the ultimate decline of a superstar player from yesteryear and that is exactly what’s happening to Washington Nationals catcher Ivan Rodriguez. The future Hall of Famer is regarded to some as the best backstop to ever play the game and if it wasn’t for his name recognition, one might mistake him for a Single-A player from the way he’s started of 2011. Rodriguez has played in two of the Nats’ four game so far this year. In those two contests, he’s failed to get a hit in six plate appearances. What did result, however, were four weak ground ball outs, a double play, and a can of corn to center. He looks overmatched at the plate and the once elite bat for his position is long gone.
