Pitcher Tommy Hunter and the Baltimore Orioles have agreed to a $1.82 million, one-year contract, more than tripling his salary of $493,500 last year. The 26-year-old right-hander was 7-8 with a 5.45 ERA in 20 starts and 13 relief appearances last year and was a big part of the Orioles' stretch push that earned the team's first playoff appearance since 1997. He was 3-0 with a 0.71 ERA in his last 10 games. Seven Orioles remain eligible to file for arbitration Tuesday: catcher Matt Wieters; right-handers Tommy Hunter, Jason Hammel, Jim Johnson and Darren O'Day; left-handers Brian Matusz and Troy Patton; and infielder Chris Davis. Hunter's agreement was announced Monday.

Player Profile #155: Nick Markakis | OF | BAL

Nick Markakis is usually a lock for 150 games (averaged 158 games from 2006-2011), but he only managed 104 games last year thanks to a fractured hamate bone and a broken thumb. It’s too bad because Markakis was actually starting to show some of that power we saw early in his career; his .174 ISO last year was his highest mark since .185 in 2008. His increased power even came while...

Could Orioles trade Jim Johnson for Porcello?

The Baltimore Orioles arent interested in trading shortstop J.J. Hardy to Detroit for starter Rick Porcello. They may be more willing to trade closer Jim Johnson. At first blush, that seems odd. But theres a sabermetric rationale behind it. Johnson could have a superb 2013 season and still not approach what he accomplished last year: He led the majors with 51 saves, made his first...

Adam Jones Is Awesome (PHOTO)

I know that many of you don’t care for the Orioles but I do and this is so cool: Adam Jones flew from his home in San Diego to Baltimore for Ray Lewis’ final home game, then traveled to Denver to watch the Ravens upset the Broncos in double overtime and now he’s headed to New England for the AFC Championship. Between this and a general distaste for Boston it’s enough to make...
