PLAYERS: Henry Owens
TEAMS: Boston Red Sox
Now we turn our eyes to the 19th ranked prospect in the Red Sox system, starting pitcher Henry Owens out of Edison High School in California. The Red Sox selected him in the supplementary round in the 2011 draft. He was the 36th pick of the draft. He ended up signing for a solid bonus of $1,550,000 although he did not throw a professional pitch in 2011. For Edison High School in 2011 Owens went 11-0 with a 1.10 ERA with 114 strikeouts in 77 innings. He only walked 25 batters, giving him a a K/BB ratio of 4.56. He also struck out 13.32 batters every 9 innings. Needless to say he was dominant in high school and had no trouble putting away high school batters. The real question is will he develop enough to be able to get out major league batters consistently. Owens is projected as a middle of the rotation starter for the Red Sox, with top of the rotation potential. In high school he hovered from the high 80s to the low 90s, although he has hit 94 on the gun. He has a lot of room to f...
