The Arizona Diamondbacks are reportedly promoting top pitching prospect Trevor Bauer to start on Thursday for the injured Joe Saunders.
Bauer was selected third overall in the 2011 Major League amateur draft after a stellar college career at UCLA. The North Hollywood, California native, posted a 51-17 record while at UCLA and led the nation in 2010 with 165 strikeouts.
In 16 starts between double and triple-A ball in 2012, Bauer is 11-1 with a 2.23 ERA and 56 strikeouts in just 44.2 innings. Fantasy owners looking for a young player with great upside should consider adding Bauer, as he could stake a claim for a spot in the rotation with a few good outings.
