Miller Diaz- After bouncing around the Mets’ Rookie Ball affiliates for parts of four seasons, Diaz is having a breakout season for Low-A Brooklyn. The hard-throwing righty has a fastball that sits in the mid-90s. He doesn’t have good enough control to stick as a starter, but he has the tools to be a very good relief pitcher down the road. This year, he has a 2.01 ERA in Brooklyn, striking out 11.8 batters per nine and walking 4.3 in 62.2 innings. His ERA and WHIP are both among the league leaders and Diaz’s 82 strikeouts leads all N...

Wheeler’s Innings Clock Is Winding Down

Zack Wheeler’s season should consist of about 28 more innings, an insider told ESPN New York, and whether that gets Wheeler through the remainder of the season remains to be seen. Adam Rubin adds that if the Mets operated with a five-man rotation, Wheeler’s turn would come up five times in September — meaning he would need to average less than six innings per outing to complete...

The Case to Extend Dillon Gee

The New York Mets organization won’t fondly look upon August 2013 for years to come. The team struggled to gain any traction following the All-Star Break, lost star pitcher Matt Harvey for the remainder of the season (and potentially most of 2014), and saw both David Wright and Ike Davis suffer injuries that threatened or completed their seasons. Baseball can be a unique world...
