Just when you think the Toronto Blue Jays were done with their reeling and dealing they surprise their fans again. After weeks of speculation, the Jays acquired this year’s National League Cy Young winner, R.A. Dickey last night.  If this doesn’t convince you that the Blue Jays are trying to get into the postseason since 1993, then I don’t know what will. I’ve wrote countless times that this team needs good pitching and I think they have got it.   They lost a lot of games in 2012 due to bad pitching. R.A. Dickey is now a Blue Jay What impresses me about Dickey and many others who follow baseball closely is that he has a wicked knuckleball that leaves batters shaking the heads when they head back to the dugout. In 2012, Dickey, 38 went 20-6 with a 2.73 earn run average, while striking out 230 batters in 233 2/3 innings with an impressive 1.05 WHIP. As well as acquiring the knuckleballer, the Blue Jays also got catcher Josh Thole and Minor League catcher Mike Nickeas.  The Mets in return got top prospects Travis d’Arnaud and Noah Synderguard.  The Mets also get catcher John Buck and Minor Leaguer Wuilmer Beccerra, Dickey agreed to a two-year, $25 million contract extension.  He is scheduled to make a total of $29 million over the next three seasons with a club option in 2016 valued at $12 million. Even though Dickey is 38 years  old, he feels he still has plenty to give. That’s the only thing that concerns me is his age.  I know this guy maybe in his twilight years and may retire within the next five years. On the positive side, I am really looking forward to seeing him pitch next season.  I will especially be looking forward to seeing him throw that knuckleball of his.  Unless I have something more important to do,  I will be in front of my t.v. watching his Blue Jay debut.
