The Toronto Blue Jays celebrated Canada’s 146th birthday with a 8-3 win over Detroit in front of their home crowd.  I can’t think of a better way to celebrate our nation’s birthday with a big win. Fan favorite, Munenori Kawasaki used his magic again by driving in the Blue Jay’s first run.   It wasn’t until the fourth inning when the Jays broke the game wide open with a three run homer by Mark DeRosa.  I’ll be honest, I wouldn’t have thought DeRosa much of a clutch hitter, but yesterday, he came through by putting the game out of reach.  This guy definitely has some pop in his bat. I also have Jay’s starting pitcher R.A. Dickey some credit for the win.  For the second straight game, Dickey managed to keep the opposing team off the scoreboard.  Despite giving up six hits, Dickey gave up two earned runs, a walk, and struck out four batters in seven innings pitched. Dickey now has a 8-8 win-loss record. Chien-Ming Wang was on the mound for the Jays in the second game and the outing was  a disaster.  In fact, Wang didn’t ‘last long enough to see the second inning.  In just 1.2 innings pitched, Wang gave up eight hits and six earned runs.  It was no surprise to me when I heard Wang was sent to Triple A Buffalo hours after the 7-6 loss to the Tigers. Game  three of the series wasn’t any better as the Blue Jays lost 6-2. Did it get any better?  Not at all.  The Blue Jays lost the fourth and final game 11-1. Blue Jay’s catcher, J.P Arencibia wasn’t  too happy with some of the comments made by analysts, Greg Zaun and Dirk Hayhurst during a radio interview yesterday morning.  Arencibia felt the comments were unnecessarily negative towards him and his teammates. Starting pitcher, Brandon Morrow is pain free and is cleared to start throwing again.  However, Morrow is not set to returned to the rotation until at least the end of this month. Longtime Blue Jay broadcaster, Tom Cheek, was honored by the organization on Tuesday night. The Jays kicks off a three game weekend series against the Minnesota Twins tonight.
