8:00 PM Andy Martino of the Daily News, asked two Mets officials if Jonathan Niese would get traded tonight. They responded that it was unlikely, but warned that things could change very quickly. Martino also said he believes just about every Met is being dangled, except for R.A. Dickey. A source told him that Dickey is unlikely to get moved this Winter. 5:30 PM According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, the Mets are currently talking to three or four teams about starting pitcher Jon Niese. Heyman says the Mets are looking for multiple players in return, including a catcher, infielder and prospects. Earlier today Joel Sherman of the NY Post tweeted a similar reported and cited the Red Sox, Padres and Rockies as teams that are interested in the Mets southpaw. This comes as a bit of a surprise, but I would imagine Niese has infinitely more value than Mike Pelfrey or Dillon Gee right now. Considering he is left-handed and only 25 years old, you would think Niese would be part of any rebuildin...

Mets listening to offers for Niese

Photo by Michael BaronThe Mets are listening to offers for Jon Niese, the 25 y/o left hander is a lifetime 22-23 in 65 starts over four seasons (two partial/ two full seasons). It doesn't hurt to listen but it seems odd that the Mets who don't have major league pitching depth, would actively shop their #3 starter who is a young, inexpensive, lefty and they will control for...

New York Mets Gauging the Trade Market for Jon Niese

Last night the New York Mets essentially assembled the entire back end of their bullpen.  Today, they have been discussing trades for left-hander Jon Niese.  There was some suggestion that Ike Davis was being discussed as well, but as Joel Sherman notes in the link, Jon Niese is the main topic.  I didn’t understand why the New York Mets would think about moving Ike Davis...

Mets Getting Really Close To "Punting" 2012..and Beyond

In recent weeks, Sandy Alderson has told the New York Post that the Mets would not "punt" the 2012 season if the franchise lost Jose Reyes. That appeared to be the case on Tuesday night when the Mets made a series of moves to solidify a bullpen that dropped 21 games after the sixth inning last year. That trend, however, may have slowed on Wednesday when the Mets began actively...

The Mets Are Not Like a Box of Chocolates

Sandy Alderson joked Wednesday that he should have sent Jose Reyes a box of chocolates. Forrest Gump's mother compared life to a box of chocolates because you never knew what you were going to get. But with the Mets, we now know what we're going to get. And it's not good.Earlier today, the David Wright trade speculation was interrupted by a rumor that the Mets were shopping...
