Here's a running list of trade rumors around the Major Leagues: – Zack Greinke, who could be moved before the trade deadline if the Brewers can sign him to a long-term contract, would be a nice fit for the Pirates according to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports. Rosenthal believes the 2012 Pirates are the similar to the 2008 Brewers, who “traded for C.C. Sabathia reached the postseason for the first time since 1982.” Also, among the players that could be a good fit for the Pirates, besides Greinke, Rosenthal names Cole Hamels, Josh Willingham, Carlos Quentin or Edwin Encarnacion. Another team that could be interested in Greinke are the Atlanta Braves, who could get involved if they can get him for a price in the range of $15 million reports David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. – Right hander Matt Garza might not be in the same category as Greinke or Hamels, but as Rosenthal points out, any team that acquires either Hamels or Greinke now, and aren't able to keep him after the season won't receive compensatory draft picks for losing them. This could improve Garza's market although the Cubs aren't in a hurry to trade him. As Rosenthal writes, if they can't get the value they want for Garza, “they simply could wait until the off-season to trade him.” Garza is under team control through 2013. – Reliever Francisco Rodriguez is, according to Rosenthal, averaging 91.6 mph with his fastball (highest since 2009), and that could improve K-Rod's value in the market. Rosenthal notes that Rodriguez could be a good fit for teams like the Marlins, Cardinals and Phillies. – The Tampa Bay Rays are going to a rough time battling injuries, and their aggressiveness during the trade deadline will depend on their health according executive vice president Andrew Friedman (via Marc Topkin of the St. Petersburg Times). If Matt Joyce and Evan Longoria come back quickly, they'll try to get upgrades at catcher and shortstops. Topkin adds that a name that has been rumored, to help the Rays offense is Alfonso Soriano. “We've compiled a target list of guys and we're going about our scouting coverage as if we don't get healthy, just so that we're prepared,” Friedman said. “In our strategy meetings, it's all been about being prepared. So that's what we're doing to be sure that we can be in position to go whichever way the situation dictates.” Image by Keith Allison under the Creative Commons License Agreement.
