Found January 15, 2012 on Redleg Nation:
The Reds have clearly and rightly made the choice to acquire elite pitching this off-season over adding a big hitter to the lineup.  Most Reds fans now eagerly await watching Mat Latos, Sean Marshall and Ryan Madson take the mound in a Reds uniform. With the pitching upgrade accomplished, attention has now legitimately turned to the question of who else, if anyone, will play left-field for the Reds beside Chris Heisey. But focusing on the LF question in isolation partially obscures a different implication of the Reds prioritization of improving the pitching staff — the failure to address who will bat clean-up for the Reds. Last year, the 4-hole was a black-hole for the Reds offense. The 2011 National League OPS for the #4 hitter was .807.  For the Reds it was .701. While too much can be made of batting order, the league as a whole recognizes the importance of an effective hitter in the clean-up spot.  For the NL, the #4 slot had the second highest OPS, following narrowly only the #3...

2012 Cincinnati Reds Offseason Preview

2011 In A NutshellIn my mind, 2011 was a major disappointment for the Reds. This was a team to win, and win now. Their window is closing pretty steadily.Anyhow, winning around 79 games the past 2 years is not what they expected withthis roster that’s full of potential…potential that never seemed to fully panout. Votto, Bruce, and Phillips produced last year, but Stubbs and Chapmanregressed...

A person with knowledge of the deal says free-agent outfielder Ryan Ludwick and the Cincinnati Reds have agreed to a $2.5 million, one-year contract. Foxsports.com and CBSSports.com were the first to report the agreement. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Monday night because the deal was pending a physical and no announcement had been made by the...

Audio: 2010 NL Central Clinching Walk-Off

It's the middle of Winter and I think I speak for everyone when I say we're all craving some baseball right now. While I can't necessarily deliver some never-before seen action, I can dig up the following footage from not too long ago. Listen as Reds radio broadcasting icon Marty Brennaman calls Jay Bruce's walk-off homer against the Astros to clinch the 2010 NL...

Left Field

What should the Reds do with left field? That’s the glaring hole that remains on this roster; well, at least, it’s the biggest hole. That question precisely is the focus of this piece by Dave Cameron. We all like Chris Heisey, but Cameron points out why the Reds need to be looking for an upgrade: They’ve done well so far, but while the roster is almost done, they still have...

Ryan Ludwick Will Continue His NL Central Tour Of Duty With The Cincinnati Reds

A minor domino fell tonight, as free agent outfielder Ryan Ludwick signed with the Cincinnati Reds for one year, $2.5 million. He can reach up to $3 million with incentives, and the deal has an option for 2013. The Reds are the third NL Central team Ludwick has played for, following the St Louis Cardinals (where he had his best years) and the Pittsburgh Pirates (where he spent two...
