Bench coaches Pete Mackanin of Philadelphia, Dave Martinez of Tampa Bay and Sandy Alomar Jr. of Cleveland are candidates for the managerial vacancy of the Boston Red Sox, CSNNE.com reported Wednesday. Mackanin already had been reported as a candidate. Martinez and Alomar also have been mentioned for the Chicago White Sox manager's position. Terry Francona and the Red Sox parted ways last week after eight seasons that included World Series titles in 2004 and 2007 but an epic collapse this season in which Boston blew a nine-game lead in September and missed the postseason. The report said New York Yankees bench coach Tony Pena also may be considered. However, no members of Francona's staff, including bench coach Demarlo Hale, will be interviewed.
