Found April 14, 2012 on Taking Bad Schotz:
PLAYERS: J.D. Martinez
TEAMS: Houston Astros

If you have that one friend who knows everything about baseball, remember this question, and ask him ten years from now to stump him (if your still friends with that D-bag).

Who was the first player to hit a homerun in Marlins Park?

I couldn’t be happier to tell you that the answer is Astros Left Fielder J.D. Martinez (who just so happens to be on my fantasy team #NBD). The Miami native hit a shot to left with a huge swing, tying the game at 4-4 in the 8th.

(here’s the link to the video of the classy HR)

This was J.D.’s 3rd homerun of the season and definitely the most significant of his career (even though they lost). Martinez is batting in the #3 spot in front of El Caballo, hitting .385 with 3 homeruns and 8 RBI’s and if the season ended today he would a MVP candidate.  According to my numbers if he keeps up this pace (3 homeruns every 7 games) he will hit at least 50 homeruns…if that’s the case pick him up for your fantasy team so we can root for him together.

Rough night at a rough ballpark for hitters

Friday night the Astros played in only the second official major league game in the history of the impressive Marlins Ballpark in Miami. The night started a bit rough for Houston and ended the same. Three great games, one win for Astros in Miami

Astro manager Brad Mills was noticeably disappointed with the way the series in Miami ended on Sunday. After all his team had carried a 4-2 lead into the eighth inning, but could not hold it, losing 5-4 in eleven innings. It was the second 5-4 eleven inning loss out of three games and kept Houston from winning the series. Yet with his young team he was able finally to point out...
