Found January 17, 2012 on Reds Minor Leagues: Yardbarker Blogger Network
Redleg Nation has up their latest podcast and it features Tucker Barnhart. Go give it a listen, immediately. The Reds made two signings yesterday. The first was Dioner Navarro, to a minor league deal. The second was for Ryan Ludwick to a MLB deal. Navarro is going to serve as insurance and likely split time with Corky Miller in Louisville. He hasn’t hit in three years, posting just a .207/.267/.311 since being an All-Star in 2008. He did hit in 2010 while in AAA. He draws walks and doesn’t swing and miss a lot, but he hasn’t really hit much despite that. Ludwick is on an MLB deal, and he has gotten on base a little bit in his career, but he hasn’t hit much since the All-Star break in 2010. Assuming he is a back up, I don’t dislike the deal. Baseball America’s “Ask BA” column went up yesterday and one question asked was to name their preseason 2012 Rookie Team. The Reds landed three players on the list and one former Red. Former Red Yon...

Reds Ink Catcher Dioner Navarro

Straight from MLBtraderumors.com: "The Reds signed catcher Dioner Navarro to a minor league deal, according to the team's Twitter feed. He'll earn $800K plus $200K in incentives in the bigs, tweets Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. Navarro, 28 in February, will provide veteran depth after catching tandem Devin Mesoraco and Ryan Hanigan. He's represented by MDR Sports...

AP Source: Reds, Ludwick agree to 1-year deal

A person with knowledge of the deal says free-agent outfielder Ryan Ludwick and the Cincinnati Reds have agreed to a $2.5 million, one-year contract. Foxsports.com and CBSSports.com were the first to report the agreement. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Monday night because the deal was pending a physical and no announcement had been made by the...

Ryan Ludwick Will Continue His NL Central Tour Of Duty With The Cincinnati Reds

A minor domino fell tonight, as free agent outfielder Ryan Ludwick signed with the Cincinnati Reds for one year, $2.5 million. He can reach up to $3 million with incentives, and the deal has an option for 2013. The Reds are the third NL Central team Ludwick has played for, following the St Louis Cardinals (where he had his best years) and the Pittsburgh Pirates (where he spent two...

Thursday discussion

So, it is the middle of January and there simply isn’t another article I had in my mind to write for today. So I thought I would pose a few questions that came to mind after listening to the Redleg Nation podcast with Tucker Barnhart yesterday. When you look at a hitter, be it through stats or scouting, what are the things that you look at the most? Why do you look at those...

Reds sign Navarro, extend Spring invitation

The Reds on Monday signed veteran catcher Dioner Navarro to a Minor League contract with an invitation to Spring Training as a non-roster player in big league camp.

Ludwick to the Reds

The Reds signed Ryan Ludwick to a one-year contract, and Redleg Nation is not impressed: File this under “It could be worse”: Best thing about Ryan Ludwick is that he doesn’t spell his name “J-u-a-n P-i-e-r-r-e” or “R-i-c-k A-n-k-i-e-l.” Ryan Ludwick’s career certainly seems to be fading as he ages into his early 30s. Teams may remember his outstanding 2008...

Reds, Ludwick come to terms on one-year deal

The Reds and outfielder Ryan Ludwick have agreed to a one-year contract with a mutual option for 2013.

Todd Frazier Replaced with Less Versatile Version of Todd Frazier

Ryan Ludwick is the newest member of the Reds and I have some seriously mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, the Reds needed outfield depth. On the other hand, this negatively affects the construction of the bench. As I read the tea leaves, the following players are locks to make the team: Hanigan, Cairo, Francisco, Ludwick, and Janish (until they sign another SS). That’...
