PLAYERS: Tom Seaver
TEAMS: New York Mets

I confess there was some sadness when I learned this week that Hostess was filing for bankruptcy. It's not a love for Twinkies, you understand. I haven't enjoyed one in years. But from 1975 to 1979, I'd rush to the Twinkies section of Dan's Supreme and Pathmark to turn over box after box, scanning the bottom for elusive Mets. There were cards issued in 1993, too, but that was different. We'll get to that. But during the Topps baseball card monopoly, the company issued one set of cards. That's different from today, when the company also seems to have a monopoly but issues many, many sets. But back in the 1970s, the only other cards out there were linked to the occasional food items, printed on the bottom of the box.It wasn't easy to find the Mets. It was an epic search.Consider that there 150 cards in the sets. These were some of the Mets “quiet years,” so there were not many of our players in the sets. There were three cards to a box. Mets Are Pretty Much Done Making Moves

MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo hears that the Mets are done making moves at major league level. I’m told #Mets are done adding players to the 40-man. Could still make a minor league deal or two before ST, but nothing major. — Anthony DiComo (@AnthonyDiComo) January 11, 2012 Looks like we pretty much know who we’re going to war with… I can’t wait for...

Explanation on Carrasco

Photo by Michael BaronMost of us would have liked to have seen D.J. Carrasco on waivers before FMart even if FMart ended up on waivers at some point. The reliever really didn't show much last year posting a 6.02 ERA. I can understand keeping him around to see what he looks like in camp since your paying him 1.2M but not instead of FMart. Even if I thought I would eventually cut...

Hopefully this ad brings the same message to you as the ASPCA commercials do. It would be greatly appreciated for you to feel so bad for these guys that you decide to help them out for just pennies...

Last night, at his annual Vegas Night charity event in Virginia Beach, David Wright spoke with Chris Carlson of Newsday and expressed optimism over the Mets chances to compete in the National League East in 2012, saying: “Sometimes youth is a good thing. Young guys, hungry and trying to prove themselves, sometimes that’s what you need over 162 games. Who would have thought...

Morning Grind: As Long As Selig’s In Baseball, So Too Will The Wilpons

Despite being adamant about his retirement following the the 2012 regular season, we learned yesterday that Bud Selig will receive at least two-year extension as Commissioner. Knowing that Selig will do –and to this point has done– everything in his power to keep the Wilpons as owners, this is disheartening news. This indirectly cripples the Mets financially for another...
