Found March 18, 2012 on Raise the Jolly Roger!:
Well, I’d say the Twins got sufficient revenge from the beatdown the other day in Fort Myers. At the plate:
  • The Pirates were hitless until the eighth inning. Brandon Boggs broke up the impending no-no with a single, and was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double.
  • Twins starter Francisco Liriano struck out six in five innings.
On the mound:
  • Charlie Morton had a rough day, allowing five runs in the second. There were some unlucky bloops/grounders along with some bad defense mixed in, but he didn’t seem sharp. He did pitch a clean 1st and 3rd.
  • Evan Meek, Juan Cruz, Jared Hughes, and Tony Watson all pitched scoreless innings.
  • Chris Leroux and Tim Wood combined for a dreadful eighth in which the Twins scored five more runs.

Starling Marte (and others) sent to minor league camp

The Pirates made a few more cuts this morning, including sending the scorching-hot Starling Marte down to minor league camp even though he's 13-for-25 with three homers this spring. Gorkys Hernandez, Kyle McPherson, Bryan Morris, and Justin Wilson all went down with him. There aren't really any surprises in that group; of the quintet that went down today Wilson was really...

Twins turn the page on dismal 2011 season

After spending 12 days watching the Minnesota Twins in Fort Myers, I can tell you this: This team will not lose 99 games again this season. That may not exactly be going out on a limb, since the only other time the Twins lost that many games was in 1982 when they finished 60-102. But after an injury-plagued season a year ago, Minnesota will certainly be improved from last year&...

PROJECTED STARTER Joe Mauer, .287 BA, 3 HRs, 30 RBIs in 2011 Mauer is a three-time batting champion and a former American League MVP. Most notably, Mauer played in just 82 games due to numerous injuries, including...
