The Minnesota Twins have agreed with right-hander Mike Pelfrey on a $4 million, one-year contract. Pelfrey was an innings eater during a four-year run with the New York Mets before missing almost all of last season after Tommy John surgery. He went 50-54 with a 4.36 ERA in seven seasons in New York. A person with knowledge of the deal tells The Associated Press that the contract has $1.5 million in performances bonuses. The person spoke Tuesday on condition of anonymity because the deal has not been announced. Pelfrey will join Scott Diamond, Vance Worley and Kevin Correia in the rotation. Pelfrey has struck out 5.1 hitters per nine innings over his career. --- AP Sports Writer Ron Blum contributed to this report.

Twins add Pelfrey to help fill out rotation

MINNEAPOLIS Minnesota Twins general manager Terry Ryan has made it clear that acquiring pitching was his top objective this offseason. He did just that on Tuesday, adding another arm to bolster the American League's worst rotation. The Twins signed veteran right-hander Mike Pelfrey to a one-year contract, according to the Associated Press. The 6-foot-7 Pelfrey previously spent...

Report: Twins, Pelfrey reach agreement on one-year deal

The Minnesota Twins and right-handed pitcher Mike Pelfrey have reached agreement on a one-year deal worth $4 million, CBSSports.com reported Sunday. Pelfrey could earn an additional $1.5 million in incentive bonuses, according to the report. Pelfrey, 28, pitched in three games, all starts, and had an 0-0 record and a 2.29 ERA in 2012 before undergoing Tommy John surgery in April...

Twins Rumors: Carl Pavano ‘Not a Fit’ for Minnesota

The Minnesota Twins have been targeting starting pitching since the offseason began, and there was initially some thought that there could be a reunion with right-hander Carl Pavano. However, while Pavano remains available as a free agent, he “doesn’t appear to be a fit with the Twins,” according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. Pavano is still currently a free...

Report: Pelfrey to sign with Twins

The Minnesota Twins have reached agreement on a one-year, $4 million contract with pitcher Mike Pelfrey. The deal, which will be finalized when Pelfrey passes a physical, includes $1.5 million in performances bonuses, ESPN.com and CBSSports.com reported. Pelfrey made $5.7 million this past season with the New York Mets. The right-hander was limited to three starts last season...

The 2013 Twins rotation will be all about contact

It's been a long, hard fall from grace for the Minnesota Twins over the last two seasons. After a stretch where the team finished above .500 in nine of ten seasons, the Twins have been the bottom feeders of the AL Central in the last two years. They've lost a combined total of 195 games, been outscored by 316 runs, and have managed to do all of that with the largest two payrolls...

Mike Pelfrey Signs One-Year Deal With Twins

The New York Mets may have lost to players in the span of one day.  Truthfully, Mike Pelfrey was not technically a Met any more.  New York non-tendered him earlier this offseason. But still, in a way, the team lost two pitchers in one day.  R.A. Dickey is reportedly going to be a member of the Toronto Blue Jays as long as they can work an extension in as part of the deal, and...

Twins Sign Mike Pelfrey

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Twins have agreed to a one-year deal with right-hander Mike Pelfrey worth $4 million with the chance to earn $1.5 million more in incentives. So much for that theory… Pelfrey, 28, went 50-54 with a 4.36 ERA in parts of seven seasons with the Mets, but missed most of 2012 after undergoing Tommy John surgery in April. He is reportedly throwing...

Twins sign Mike Pelfrey

The Minnesota Twins have signed pitcher Mike Pelfrey to a one-year deal worth $4mm, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports. Pelfrey will reportedly be ready by Spring Training as he continues to recover from Tommy John surgery he had early last season. If healthy, Pelfrey can earn an additional $1.5mm in performance bonuses. The right hander had spent his entire career with the Mets organization...

Twins' centerfield spot open for the taking

MINNEAPOLIS Denard Span is gone. So is Ben Revere. Both center fielders were traded away by the Minnesota Twins in recent weeks. Which raises the question: who will roam center field for the Twins in 2013? Minnesota has plenty of outfield depth throughout the organization, perhaps more so than any other position. Young outfield prospects like Byron Buxton (last year's No. 2...

Different Sport, Same Sinker

I'd be remised if I didn't go into some depth about Mike Pelfrey signing a one year deal with the Twins. Pelfrey is that guy that we've had so many discussions about regarding his upside. Was he an ace or not? It was reasonable to expect that the ninth overall pick could potentially be a front of the rotation starting pitcher. But the one chance Pelfrey had to step up...

Transaction Analysis: Putting the `Pen In Pennsylvania by R.J. Anderson

Phillies sign Mike Adams and the Twins add Mike Pelfrey.

Links of the Day 12/18/12

It’s only one week until Christmas. I hope you aren’t waiting to the last minute to buy me something. The Twins have signed Mike Pelfrey. He is coming off of Tommy John surgery, so he should fit in just fine. The Jets suck, and Mike Tirico knows it. Mike Pelfrey probably filled out this form, albeit with his off arm SCOREBOARD Nothing!

Monday Musings

Are you in the mood to read 1,537 words?  Actually more now since I'm writing this introduction?  You are?  Oh good.  Because here they come.  -  We've written about the Span trade, the Revere trade, and the Correia signing here already so I suppose I should put something to figurative paper about the Mike Pelfrey signing but I am struggling so hard to care.  ...
