What a season it has been for right-hander Jared Burton. Limited by injuries and illness to eight major-league innings in 2010-11, he has become of the Minnesota Twins' most trusted relievers this season and on Sunday earned his first major league save. Already 1-0 with a 3.10 earned-run average in 30 appearances, he closed out a 4-3, come-from-behind victory at Great American Ballpark. "That was my first time out there in the ninth trying get the last out and it was pretty intense," he said. "But never in doubt, right? I had it the whole time." Actually it was fairly tense. Burton walked leadoff hitter Todd Frazier on four pitches and may have gotten a break when Reds manager Dusty Baker had pinch hitter Willie Harris bunt Frazier to second. With Capps on the DL, Minnesota will use left-hander Glen Perkins and right...

Trade Deadline Looming

With the trade deadline on the horizon, who knows what will happen.  Liriano has definitely beefed up his value as has Denard Span and Joe Mauer.  Although, I don't think that many teams would want to eat Joe's enormous contract, it's definitely something that Ryan should at least entertain, if he hasn't already.  Frankie High Cheese I...

Twins' Duensing offers mixed results in start

On Saturday, Brian Duensing tried to do what only Scott Diamond and P.J. Walters have achieved for the Twins this season: earn a win in his first start of the season.Like seven others before him, he failed, but the odds were already against him. His pitch count was strict, and the Reds are good seven games over .500 going into the afternoon and sitting atop the NL Central.Manager...

Gardenhire: Scotty pitched his tail off today

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said earlier this month that he's not a fan of interleague play because he doesn't like the fact that his pitchers have to swing a bat. But with left-hander Scott Diamond due up in the top of the 8th inning, Gardenhire let his starting pitcher swing away. The move made sense, as Diamond cruised through seven innings, allowing just one run to...

Twins' Capps hits DL with shoulder inflammation

The Twins placed closer Matt Capps on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his right shoulder. The move is retroactive to June 24, and Capps' spot on the 25-man roster was filled by left-handed reliever Tyler Robertson. In 33 relief appearances for Triple-A Rochester, Robertson went 2-2 with two saves and a 3.77 ERA with 33 strikeouts.

Hendricks has been struggling to say the least with a 9.92 ERA over his last four starts and it's amazing that he is even in a major league rotation.  Just goes to show you how much this Twins...

2012 Fantasy Baseball Closer Report – Week 13

The Minnesota Twins placed closer Matt Capps on the disabled list Monday with right shoulder tendinitis. Capps’ role will be split between Glen Perkins and Jared Burton, as each of them picked up two saves last week in place of Capps. Since manager Ron Gardenhire seems to be determining the ninth inning role based on matchups, Burton as the right-handed pitcher figures to see...
