MINNEAPOLIS Clete Thomas is back with the Minnesota Twins, as the team announced Monday that he has been recalled from Triple-A Rochester. To make room for Thomas on the 40-man roster, Minnesota designated reliever Tyler Robertson for assignment. Robertson was on the Opening Day roster but was optioned to Rochester on April 6. Thomas, a 29-year-old outfielder, first debuted with the Twins last year when Minnesota claimed him off waivers in April of last season. In his first game on April 15 with the Twins, Thomas homered and drove in two runs. He wound up batting just .143 in 12 games and was eventually sent to Triple-A. In 35 games for Rochester this year, Thomas was batting .296 with nine homers and 25 RBI. But he has also shown a penchant for striking out 35 strikeouts and just 18 walks in 143 plate appearances. Minnesota optioned Chris Colabello following Sundays game against Seattle, so Thomas takes his spot on the 25-man roster. The Twins are off Monday before beginning a three-game series Tuesday in Kansas City. Follow Tyler Mason on Twitter.

Florimon looks to be answer to Twins' shortstop question

MINNEAPOLIS It's been six years since the Twins had a shortstop play more than 100 games in a season. More than any other position, shortstop has been a revolving door in Minnesota from one year to the next. Pedro Florimon is hoping to stop that trend. Through Sunday, Florimon has made 42 starts at shortstop in 54 games this season. If he stays healthy, he's on pace to play...

Twins Sunday: Herrmann hits first MLB homer

MINNEAPOLIS Chris Herrmann couldn't stop smiling as he rounded the bases Sunday in the fourth inning. And who could blame him. Herrmann hit his first career major league home run in Sunday's 10-0 over the Seattle Mariners. Herrmann drove a 1-2 pitch from Jeremy Bonderman to left field for an estimated 373-foot homer. The emotion on Herrmann's face following the home...

The Minnesota Twins have placed outfielder Aaron Hicks on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain. To replace Hicks on the roster, the Twins will recall outfielder Oswaldo Arcia from Triple-A Rochester before Tuesday's game against Philadelphia. Arcia has appeared...

Twins 10, Mariners 0

The Twins have rediscovered the grit they generally lacked while losing a combined 195 games in 2011 and 2012. Scott Diamond pitched six shutout innings and Josh Willingham hit one of Minnesota's four home runs as the Twins beat the Seattle Mariners 10-0 Sunday, their seventh victory in nine games since dropping 10 straight in mid-May. In the last of those losses, the Twins...

Links of the Day 6/3/13

I went for a nice walk today and worked up a sweat. So that’s cool. Here is a dumb post that I found mildly amusing.  Awww, the big baseball players are scared of a widdle thunderstorm. The Twins are bringing back Clete Thomas. SCOREBOARD MLB Minnesota 10, Seattle 0 – That’s impressive.Who needs Clete Thomas? Oakland 2, Chicago 0 – Jarrod Parker brought his ERA down to...

Getting Closer

At 25-29 the Twins have sneaked their way into 3rd place in the Central. They currently stand at a full game ahead of the White Sox and 4 games behind the 2nd place Indians. I had predicted they would grab 3rd by the All-Star break, but now they're working ahead of that. Diamond It has been beneficial that they are facing bottom feeder teams, but hey, you need to...

Twins-Royals Preview

The Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Royals have both experienced their share of struggles. But a recent power surge has things looking up for the Twins, while the Royals' offense is still sputtering through a prolonged slump. Minnesota would like to see both trends continue Tuesday night when it visits Kansas City in the opener of a three-game series. The Twins (25-29) don...

Fun with Nerd Stats

I was doing some work in Excel on my data and formulas for player props, and came across some interesting stats that I found interesting.  So look: -  B.J. Upton is having an absolutely terrible year, and a big reason is pop-ups.  Upton has a major league worst 30.2% in-field fly ball rate with 13 pop-ups in 192 plate appearances, a big reason why his BABIP is so low at just...
