The Clete Thomas experiment in Minnesota appears to be over. The Twins announced Friday that the outfielder was designated for assignment. Minnesota claimed Thomas off waivers from the Detroit Tigers on April 14. He hit a home run in his second at-bat with the Twins, but was just 4-for-28 with 16 strikeouts in 12 games in Minnesota. Minnesota also announced that it claimed outfielder Erik Komatsu off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals. He will take Thomas' spot on the 25-man roster. Komatsu, 24, made his major league debut with St. Louis earlier this season. He appeared in 15 games and was 4-for-19 with two walks, two strikeouts and three runs scored. Komatsu played all three outfield positions with the Cardinals this season. An eighth-round draft pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in 2008, Komatsu batted a combined .277.367.382 last season with Double-A Huntsville and Double-A Harrisburg. He hit seven home runs and added 48 RBI in 124 games with the two teams. The Cardinals dra...

Twins claim OF Komatsu off waivers, drop Thomas

The Minnesota Twins have claimed outfielder Erik Komatsu off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals. The move was made Friday as the struggling Twins designated outfielder Clete Thomas for assignment. After being claimed three weeks ago off waivers from the Detroit Tigers, Thomas homered in his first game with the Twins but struck out 16 times in 28 at-bats. The 24-year-old Komatsu...

Good Bye Clete

Clete Thomas  Today the Minnesota Twins picked up outfielder Erik Komatsu off of waivers and designated Clete Thomas for assignment.  Clete's career with the Twins started off on fire with a homer in his second at-bat but quickly went down in flames batting only 4-28 since.  That's too bad.  I actually thought Clete Thomas was going to be the answer to...

Span ends Twins' 25-inning scoring drought

For a while, it seemed as if the Minnesota Twins might never score another run. Entering Friday's game against the Seattle Mariners, the Twins had been shut out by the Los Angeles Angels in back-to-back games. The lowest point came Wednesday, when Minnesota was no-hit by Jered Weaver. The Twins' scoreless streak ran to 25 innings Friday, as Minnesota failed to score through...

Reardon: 'We're surviving our best'

Jeff Reardon is doing well these days. But to know what that means for Reardon means first knowing what the former Minnesota Twins closer went through during the darkest years of his life. After his 16-year major league career was over, Reardon settled down in retirement with his family, including his three children. He and his wife, Phebe, lived in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., just...

The Twins Should Take Some Credit

A tip of the cap to fans after a no-hitter The Minnesota Twins were no-hit last night by Angels righty Jered Weaver.  It is definitely a monumental accomplishment to throw a no hitter and my hat is off to the man.  I, however, don't think the Twins should hang their heads over this.  Instead they should take some credit for it.  I knew going into...

Twins to place Morneau on DL Monday

The Minnesota Twins' roster will look a bit different on Monday. The team announced Saturday that designated hitterfirst baseman Justin Morneau will be placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sore left wrist. The Twins will also call up infielder Brian Dozier and pitcher Scott Diamond from Triple-A Rochester prior to Monday's game at Target Field against the Los Angeles...

Twins rally to hand M's seventh straight loss

SEATTLE (AP) -- It took 25 innings for the Minnesota Twins to finally snap their scoreless skid. And when they did, the Twins took advantage of the kind of break they haven't been getting during a rough start. Joe Mauer's two-out RBI single in the seventh inning helped the Twins rally for a 3-2 win on Friday night, handing the Seattle Mariners their seventh straight loss...

The Drought Is Over.

The Twins finally score, ending their 25 inning scoreless streak and, hey, they ended up getting a win too.  Pavano went 6 solid innings giving up only 2 runs on 8 hits and the bullpen came in and did their job holding the Mariners with dominating efforts by Perkins and Capps.  Yes I said Capps.  He appears to have developed a slider and split finger and had command of them last...

Twins-Mariners Preview

Ron Gardenhire didn't mince words by saying that his Minnesota Twins "looked like a bunch of Little Leaguers" their last time out. The Seattle Mariners probably haven't been quite that bad during their longest losing streak of the season. The visiting Twins will try to end their 19-inning scoreless drought Friday night in the opener of a three-game set against...

Derby Picks

I tried to write a real post tonight.  I really did.  I started and then stopped like 4-5 times.  I don't know, I think when the only thing to write about is Twins' futility it gets kind of boring.  I'll get back into the swing of things I swear.  I'm planning on doing a weekend review for your Monday pleasure because at least that will get the ole writing juices...
