Not even his second quality start was enough for Minnesota Twins right-hander Liam Hendriks to get his first major league win. Hendriks scattered five hits over 6 1/3 innings and struck out five against the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday, but he and the Twins emerged with a 3-2 loss. Hendriks paid for hanging a slider to Alex Rios, who belted a two-run homer in the fourth inning. In seven starts this season, Hendriks is 0-5 with a 6.82 ERA. He went 0-2 with a 6.17 ERA in four starts for Minnesota last year. Before Tuesday, Hendriks' only quality start was a six-inning, one-run no-decision against the Rangers on April 15. For the most part, Hendriks kept Chicago's lineup off balance by aggressively locating his fastball, a game plan he has refined after being demoted to Class AAA Rochester in early May with a mandate to stop nibbling and start attacking hitters. However, Hendriks continues to be plagued by long balls. He has yielded 13 home runs in his career and at...

Hendriks: 'I'm still searching for that No. 1'

MINNEAPOLIS Liam Hendriks just can't find that first Major League victory. The Twins right-hander was hit with the loss Tuesday as Minnesota fell 3-0 to the visiting Chicago White Sox. It was Hendriks' 11th career start over the past two seasons, and he fell to 0-7 in the majors with Tuesday's defeat. "Eleven and counting. I'm still searching for that No....

Twins place closer Capps on the disabled list

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Twins have placed closer Matt Capps on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation. To take Capps' spot on the 25-man roster, the Twins recalled left-hander Tyler Robertson from Triple-A Rochester. Capps has appeared in 27 games and has 14 saves this season. With Capps on the DL, Minnesota will use left-hander Glen Perkins and right...

Diamond leads by example to save environment

MINNEAPOLIS Scott Diamond has never been one to back down from a challenge. When the left-hander didn't make the Twins' Opening Day roster out of spring training, it was a challenge. He responded by pitching well with Triple-A Rochester and earning a promotion to the majors. Diamond made his 2012 debut on May 8 and has since become Minnesota's most consistent starting...

Trade Deadline Looming

With the trade deadline on the horizon, who knows what will happen.  Liriano has definitely beefed up his value as has Denard Span and Joe Mauer.  Although, I don't think that many teams would want to eat Joe's enormous contract, it's definitely something that Ryan should at least entertain, if he hasn't already.  Frankie High Cheese I...

Twins to honor Minneapolis baseball history

MINNEAPOLIS The Minnesota Twins will pay homage to the Minneapolis Millers this Saturday when they don the throwback uniforms worn by the 1951 Millers. The white uniforms include black lettering with orange outline of "Millers." In addition, black socks with orange stripes are a part of the uniform. The hats are black with an orange "M." The Twins will wear...

Twins starter Blackburn continues to struggle

MINNEAPOLIS Nick Blackburn was at a loss for words Wednesday when asked what more he can do to turn things around, shortly after he and the Minnesota Twins fell, 12-5, to the Chicago White Sox.The Twins are seemingly out of options, too, meaning they have no choice but to keep Blackburn in the rotation. Wednesday's outing was his worst this month, as the right-hander allowed...

2012 Fantasy Baseball Closer Report – Week 13

The Minnesota Twins placed closer Matt Capps on the disabled list Monday with right shoulder tendinitis. Capps’ role will be split between Glen Perkins and Jared Burton, as each of them picked up two saves last week in place of Capps. Since manager Ron Gardenhire seems to be determining the ninth inning role based on matchups, Burton as the right-handed pitcher figures to see...

Weak AL Central has Twins just 7.5 back

MINNEAPOLIS Some how, some way, the Minnesota Twins were only 7.5 games out of first place in the American League Central after beating the visiting Chicago White Sox on Monday. Given how deep of a hole the Twins have dug themselves into, that number just didn't seem right. Minnesota dropped the second game of the series Tuesday to Chicago to fall back to 8.5 games out of first...

Twins' Capps hits DL with shoulder inflammation

The Twins placed closer Matt Capps on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his right shoulder. The move is retroactive to June 24, and Capps' spot on the 25-man roster was filled by left-handed reliever Tyler Robertson. In 33 relief appearances for Triple-A Rochester, Robertson went 2-2 with two saves and a 3.77 ERA with 33 strikeouts.

Francisco Liriano spoiled Kevin Youkilis' first game with Chicago, throwing a season-high seven innings to lead the Minnesota Twins to a 4-1 victory over the White Sox on Monday night. Making his first start against the rival White Sox since his no-hitter in Chicago nearly 14 months ago, Liriano (2-7) allowed just three singles, two walks and a double. The left-hander struck...

Hendricks has been struggling to say the least with a 9.92 ERA over his last four starts and it's amazing that he is even in a major league rotation.  Just goes to show you how much this Twins...
