Found July 08, 2013 on Fox Sports North:
Minnesota outfielder Aaron Hicks has looked like a different player since returning from the disabled list earlier this month, and he had perhaps the best offensive game of his young career in Monday's 7-4 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. Hicks finished Monday's game with a four-hit night -- the first of his career -- which included two doubles and a triple. In seven games since coming back from the DL on July 2, Hicks is now batting 10-for-25 (.400) with a home run, three doubles, two RBI and eight runs scored. "He's a little more confident," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said of Hicks. "I think he's comfortable right now. Hopefully it'll continue." Hicks' first hit Monday was a ground rule double down the left field line to lead off the third inning. As Hicks rounded first, a fan in the left field corner interfered with the ball, allowing Hicks to reach second for his first of two doubles. Hicks later came around to score the Twins' fir...

Caleb Thielbar a bright spot for Twins in first half

Caleb Thielbar's impressive streak of scoreless innings may be over, but the Twins rookie has still been a bright spot for Minnesota during the first half of the year. Before Monday's game against Tampa Bay, Thielbar had yet to allow a run in his first 19 23 innings of his major league career. Since making his debut on May 20, Thielbar made Twins history with his scoreless...

Twins rookie Oswaldo Arcia hit in face with foul popup (GIF)

Minnesota Twins rookie left fielder Oswaldo Arcia allowed a foul popup to hit him in the face during Tuesday night's game at Tropicana Field against the Tampa Bay Rays. Arcia could have used a glove on his face for that play. Ouch. GIF via GIFulmination. H/T FTW. Visit us at holdoutsports.com and follow us on Twitter @HoldoutSports.

Oswaldo Arcia one of top rookies in AL this season

Oswaldo Arcia digs into the batter's box without much fear. The Twins' free-swinging outfielder has seen major league pitchers adjust to him since his debut on April 15, but he's made the appropriate adjustments in return. The left-handed Arcia isn't afraid to face some of the league's top left-handed pitching. Such was the case last week when Arcia lined a base...

Twins outfielder Oswaldo Arcia gets hit in face by ball after popup whiff (video)

Being a resident of the fine State of Minnesota, I have had front row seats to the sad demise of the Minnesota Twins as a functional, competitive major league team. Perhaps front row seats isn’t the appropriate terminology, as I’d have to be loony to pay the exorbitant prices to watch such a sub-par product [...]The post Twins outfielder Oswaldo Arcia gets hit in face by ball...

Fifth frame continues to be Scott Diamond's downfall

Scott Diamond seemed to have figured things out during his last start against the New York Yankees. He didn't earn a win, but he allowed just two earned runs in 6 23 innings. More importantly, he avoided a blowup in the fifth inning in that game. One start later, Diamond's fifth inning woes made a resurgence. The Minnesota Twins left-hander surrendered four runs in the bottom...

Rays take on Twins looking for seventh straight win

The Minnesota Twins' offense and pitching both continue to prove unreliable during the team's rough stretch. Those troubles could continue Wednesday night as they face a hot pitcher while their own hurler tries to turn things around. Minnesota tries to avoid losing its sixth straight road series when it faces Jeremy Hellickson and the Tampa Bay Rays, who seek a season-high...

Twins Tuesday: Fourth inning does in rookie pitcher Kyle Gibson

If Kyle Gibson's major league debut was memorable and his second outing was forgettable, Gibson's third career start was somewhere in between. The Twins right-hander allowed four runs Tuesday against Tampa Bay, all in the fourth inning, as he and Minnesota fell, 4-1, to the Rays at Tropicana Field. As a result, Gibson fell to 1-2 with a 7.27 ERA in his young career. Gibson...

Twins hope third time's a charm for Kyle Gibson

The Tampa Bay Rays' hitters and starting pitchers have led the way during the team's red-hot stretch. A contributor to the Rays' string of strong starts, Chris Archer is hoping to see some more of that hitting prowess in his next outing. Archer will try to help Tampa Bay match its longest win streak of the season Tuesday night against the scuffling Minnesota Twins....

Rays 4, Twins 1

Chris Archer pitched six strong innings, while Matt Joyce and Kelly Johnson drove in two runs apiece to help the surging Tampa Bay Rays extend their winning streak to a season-best six games with a 4-1 victory over the sputtering Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night. Archer (3-3) limited the Twins to an unearned run and three hits to outpitch fellow rookie Kyle Gibson (1-2), who was...

Links of the Day 7/10/13

Good morning. Couldn’t sleep, so here are some links. Oswaldo Arcia had a tough time with a fly ball. In the event you didn’t know, pretty much all of the All Stars are former Twins. I don’t know why I didn’t wrap my head around this, but Roger Maris still holds the AL single season home run record. SCOREBOARD MLB Chicago 11, Detroit 4 – It’s only July, but Chicago is...

Wins and losses aren’t a fair measuring stick in rebuilding mode

Over the last couple of months, I have heard many assaults on the Twins front office and management, whether it be from uncles and cousins or just anonymous malcontents on Twitter. It’s to the point that I feel the need to stick up for Terry Ryan and, yes, even Ron Gardenhire. I will start with Terry Ryan. I had my issues with him during his first tenure, and that lay entirely...
