Minnesota Twins pitcher Scott Diamond received a six-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for throwing a pitch near the head of Texas Rangers slugger Josh Hamilton in the bottom of the third inning of Thursday night's game in Arlington. Major League Baseball announced the suspension Friday. Diamond was scheduled to begin serving his suspension Friday, but has appealed it. Texas' Roy Oswalt hit Joe Mauer in the back with a 3-0 pitch in the third inning, saying he was trying to work inside. After Diamond threw behind Hamilton in the bottom of the inning, Diamond and manager Ron Gardenhire were ejected. Home plate umpire Wally Bell ejected Diamond without issuing a warning, but Bell told a pool reporter he thought Diamond needed to be ejected after throwing near Hamilton's head.
