MINNEAPOLIS Twins first baseman Chris Parmelee was sporting a black eye Friday, but was headache- and concussion-free two days after being hit in the head by a 93 mph pitch in a game against Boston.Red Sox reliever Justin Thomas hit Parmelee in the head with a fastball in the sixth inning, and Parmelee instantly fell to the ground. He was helped off the field by trainers but did not show signs of a concussion after going through tests Wednesday night. The Twins had an off-day Thursday, and Parmelee was in good spirits before Friday's game against Kansas City."I'm feeling real good," Parmelee said. "Just a little black eye and a headache when it happened, but other than that I'm good."Those headaches have since subsided, Parmelee said, and he added that he never had any thought of a concussion cross his mind. Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said Parmelee would be available off the bench Friday, but Minnesota would "shy away" from using him."Little bit of swelling in his head, when he got hit, and little black eye, but he's actually OK. He's out there running around, and doing pretty good," Gardenhire said. "Just have to go day-by-day with him. Says he feels good. I'll let the doctors and trainers tell me."Parmelee said he had seen several other players get hit in the head by a pitch, but Wednesday was the first time it had happened to him. He called it a "scary" moment, but knew it could have been a much scarier scene."Luckily, the padding of the helmet runs right along there, so it had hit the padding. That was huge," Parmelee said. "It could have been a lot worse. If that ball was have an inch to an inch lower, I might be looking at some cheek bone, eyeball, it wouldn't have been good."Parmelee also said he heard from Thomas after the game. Thomas was visibly shaken in the Red Sox dugout after hitting Parmelee in the head."He called over and wanted to make sure I was OK and stuff like that, so that was really cool," Parmelee said.
