The Cleveland Indians' once promising season has spiraled out of control. Minnesota was the latest team to give them a spin on Monday night.
Josh Willingham, Justin Morneau and Ryan Doumit homered during a 10-run second inning as the Twins routed the Indians 14-3, sending Cleveland to its 10th consecutive loss.
Starting pitcher Zach McAllister (4-4) was sent to the showers after 1 2/3 innings as the Indians dug an early 10-1 hole -- and moved within two games of the longest losing streak in franchise history. Cleveland lost 12 straight from May 7-21, 1931, while its last double-digit skid was an 11-gamer in 2009.
''I asked one of my coaches to pinch me tonight because I couldn't believe it was happening again,'' Indians manager Manny Acta said. ''It continues to be rough and disappointing the way we're giving up runs.
''I don't think I've ever seen anything like it and I don't think I'll see anything like it again.''
