The Twins have decided to designate the contract of Jason Marquis for assignment, a major-league source told FOXSports.com.
The move is expected to become official in the next 24 to 48 hours. Marquis went 2-4 with an 8.47 ERA in seven starts for the Twins this year. His last start was his worst, as he lasted only 1 2/3 innings while surrendering eight earned runs in a Sunday loss to Milwaukee.
Marquis, 33, has a good track record in the National League, so the Twins are likely to see if NL clubs have interest in acquiring him via trade. If the Twins are unable to deal him, Marquis will be released.
