MLB suspends Cleveland pitcher Carlos Carrasco for a second time; Indians activate Giambi

Cleveland pitcher Carlos Carrasco was fined an undisclosed amount and suspended 8 games for intentionally hitting Yankees hitter Kevin Youkilis during Tuesday’s game.  The start was Carrasco’s first start of the year, and came after serving a six game suspension for hitting a Kansas City Royal in his last start before injury. RHP Carlos Carrasco suspended 8-games by MLB. As...

Second Thoughts: Indians pitchers off to rough start

The good news? It’s only been eight games. Nothing is decided in eight games. The bad news? Those eight games have raised more questions than they’ve answered about the Indians’2013 pitching staff. The Indians are tied with the mighty Houston Astros for the most runs given up in the American League. The team has surrendered 48 runs in eight games, good for 6.0 per game. You...

Orbiting Cleveland: Attendance woes linger

How about we start this week’s column with a little scene setting, eh? The date is April 8, 2013. The place is downtown Cleveland. The time is 3 p.m., and all throughout the city, a “Tribe Vibe” has engulfed residents. Over 40,000 Cleveland Indians fans are in the downtown vicinity in some capacity, and the excitement over the Tribe’s home opener is visible at just about...

Justin Masterson - gold or pyrite?

Every year in the Major Leagues, some players jump out in the early part of the season and astound us in small sample size wonder. This year, John Buck and Chris Davis have been pretty astounding. And yet, when a position player jumps way out ahead of his normal stats, we expect regression. Pitchers sometimes get more of a pass. But what about the case of Justin Masterson, the...

Myles, Sabourin drive Mudcats to another win, 9-7

by Zachary Francis WINSTON-SALEM - Much like they did in the opening game of the season, the Carolina Mudcats pulled out a 9-7 win against the Winston Salem Dash in their first road game of the season on Friday night. First baseman Jerrud Sabourin went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored, leading the Mudcats to victory. The Mudcats got on the board first in the top of the second...

Francona hoping Carrasco avoids suspension

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Indians manager Terry Francona hopes Carlos Carrasco can duck another suspension. Carrasco, who just finished serving a five-game suspension for throwing at a player in 2011, is facing further discipline after he was ejected in the fourth inning Tuesday for hitting New York's Kevin Youkilis in the left shoulder -- one pitch after giving up a two-run homer to...

Clippers bullpen shuts out Bats 5-0

LOUISVILLE, KY – The Columbus Clippers used five pitchers to secure a 5-0 shutout win over the Louisville Bats on Wednesday night. The victory gave the Clippers the series win, 2-1. The headline before the game was that Clippers starting pitcher to be, Corey Kluber, was recalled back up to the majors. Kluber was set to start on the mound for the Clippers on Wednesday night, but...

Francisco Lindor gets ready

BY Tony LastoriaSpecial to FOXSportsOhio.com By now, every Indians fan has heard of Cleveland Indians shortstop and top prospect Francisco Lindor. Its kind of hard not to know who he is since he has taken the organization by storm since he was drafted in June of 2011. In almost two years time, Lindor has established himself as the heir apparent at shortstop for the Indians and one...

Carlos Carrasco earns eight game suspension

Cleveland Indians starter Carlos Carrasco earned an eight game suspension from the league after throwing at Kevin Youkilis' head on Tuesday. Ironically, that start on Tuesday was Carrasco's first of the season after serving a six game suspension to start the year after throwing at Billy Butler in a 2011 game. Carrasco probably won't end up serving the suspension right...

Swisher's hit in 9th gives Indians 1-0 win

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Nick Swisher's two-out RBI single in the ninth inning gave the Cleveland Indians a 1-0 win over the Chicago White Sox on Friday. Michael Bourn started the rally with a one-out double off Jesse Crain (0-1). Bourn's blooper landed near the left field line and he beat the throw to second base. After Asdrubal Cabrera's groundout moved Bourn to third, Crain...

The Cleveland Indians pitcher was suspended for eight games by Major League Baseball on Friday for “intentionally throwing” at New York’s Kevin Youkilis, the right-hander’s second penalty in two years for aiming at a hitter. The season isn't over at the Corner of Carnegie and Ontario

I can’t help but shake my head while sitting here during the opening home series here at Progressive Field. The Cleveland Indians are 3-5 and two games out of first on April 10th, and to listen to the general populace that surround the Indians, you would think that the season ended yesterday after another 100-loss season. Sure, things could be better. The pitching staff looks like...

The Mudcats...
