Don’t you just love lawyers and the way they can use language to make things seem like they’re something they’re not? Clearly, the University of Miami has some quality lawyers and public relations people. As the ever-widening scandal involving the Yankees’ Alex Rodriguez and an “anti-aging” clinic called Biogenesis of America LLC makes Miami and its alumni look worse and worse, the university put out a statement and a statistic. The statement was pretty boilerplate, stating the Hurricanes’ drug-testing program was on par with most other universities and professional leagues. The statistic, however, is where things get PED-y. The university stated that none of the past 10,000 tests performed on its athletes had come up positive for anabolic steroids. Well done, University of Miami, because that statement is utterly, completely worthless. Alex Rodriguez, Ryan Braun, Gio Gonzalez, and others are accused of purchasing and using performance-enhancing drugs from Biogenesis of America. Th...
