At the beginning of the season, it seemed highly unlikely that the San Francisco Giants would need to search for starting pitching at the trade deadline. However, after receiving the news that legendary southpaw Randy Johnson is on the 60-day DL, the Giants starting rotation looks like it is in need of reinforcement. All year long, the Giants have had one of the best pitching staffs in baseball. This rotation featured Cy Young Award winners Tim Lincecum, Randy Johnson, and Barry Zito, as well as all-star Matt Cain, and proud owner of a no-hitter in Jonathan Sanchez. When the season started, this rotation was expected to be one of the best in baseball. With the exception of the inconsistency of Sanchez and the bad luck of Zito, this group has not disappointed. However, with number two starter, Randy Johnson on the shelf until at least September, San Francisco's starting rotation is a little dismantled.
