7/2 10:50: One person in the know, according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated, says that it is difficult to imagine Blue Jays’ GM Alex Anthopoulos being “quite that bold” as to hire a 38-year-old who just finished his playing career in 2008 and has only been a manager for a few months at Single-A.
6/28 17:03: Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com says former Cleveland Indian, Sal Fasano, is an early candidate to replace Cito Gaston as the manager of the Toronto Blue Jays. Gaston is retiring as manager of the Blue Jays at the end of the season.
Fasano, 38, is currently manager the Blue Jays’ Single-A affiliate – Lansing Lugnuts in the Midwest League.
The former catcher last played in the Major Leagues in 2008 with the Indians. He spent 11 years in the big leagues. He finished with 47 career home runs and a batting average of .221.
