Found May 14, 2013 on The Daily Stache:
The past few days, the Jordany Valdespin incident with the Pirates and his Mets teammates has been a big story. With the team playing poorly and news being slower than slow, this story has taken on a life of it’s own. This morning, Andy Martino of the NY Daily News wrote a post on their website about the situation involving Valdespin and what happened before and after he was hit by a pitch on Saturday. To give you an idea of what the post is about, this is what Andy wrote… Jordany Valdespin tried to wiggle out of pinch-hitting duty on Saturday when he expected the Pittsburgh Pirates to plunk him, according to a person who witnessed the event in the dugout. Then he wore body armor to the plate, and confounded teammates by refusing to address the media after that game. Even in an interview with Sandy Alderson yesterday, WFAN 660/101.9 FM host Mike Francesa called him a “Half a Jerk.” So today, Valdespin decided to respond to everything that has been going around him over the past few days Me critican para bajarme el auto estima pero yo voy directo ala cima. Yo no naci pa perder — Jordany Valdespin (@jordany023) May 14, 2013 My translation, through Google Translate is below. Translation of @jordany023‘s tweet: “They criticize me to undo my self esteem but I’m going straight wing top. I was not born to lose pa” — Matthew Falkenbury (@dailystache) May 14, 2013 I feel bad for the kid that he has to deal with all this. Did he bring it upon himself, yeah you can say that, no question. I still feel bad for him though. It was our own @MetsKevin11 that noticed that he had put armor on for that AB on Saturday and it made sense based on how he reacted while the ball was traveling towards his ribs. He tried his best to put the armor in front of the ball so that it would not hurt. It looked awkward at the time it happened but then I realized what he was doing. This guy in my opinion is a good guy, he might be flashy and cocky, but he still seems like a good kid. I hope this finally blows over sooner rather than later. Lets just play some baseball please. Mets Better Off Without Valdespin

Two weeks ago I wondered why Jordany Valdespin wasn’t getting more playing time. Now, I’m wondering why I bothered to care. Why should I, or anybody else for that matter – outside his immediate family – care about Valdespin, of whom GM Sandy Alderson recently said is testing his limits of tolerance? Answer: There is no reason. VALDESPIN: Will never be the man. The Mets finished...

Mets Have More To Worry About Than Valdespin Hitting Home Runs

They say that the cream always rises to the top. Except of course when you don’t use it and just let it sit around and spoil. That’s what continues to happen with Jordany Valdespin. In the latest chapter of the New York soap opera titled “El Dramático,” Valdespin was intentionally hit by a pitch by Pirates reliever Bryan Morris. This stemmed from Valdespin’s prolonged...

Was Valdespin Sent Up By Collins To Get Hit?

Updated by Joe D. at 2:30 PM Just caught this on MetsBlog who seems to have just caught on to what has been a two day debate here: It almost sounds like Collins put Valdespin in a situation he knew would end up with a hit-by-pitch, maybe in an effort to teach Valdespin a lesson, right? If that’s the case, is that why Valdespin threw a ‘tantrum,’ as fans and media have described it...

Yet Another Development In The Jordany Valdespin Story

“Valdespin knew that was coming. I don’t think it’s fair to say that since we didn’t hit one of the Pittsburgh hitters that he doesn’t have a friend. The notion that he was hung out to dry I think is a mistake. I’m not telling you he’s the most popular guy in the clubhouse, but I don’t think he was hung out to dry.” That was the quote we heard from Mets...

Let #JV1 be #JV1

Click here to view the embedded video. Over the first 34 games of the season, not one Mets player has been a more discussed figure than 25 year old Jordany Valdespin. We have all seen flashes of the young outfielder’s immense potential, but his on field performance is one of the last things on the mind of fans after this weekend. Before I dive into how I feel about the self proclaimed...

Those Who Contribute the Least Shouldn’t Be Made the Story

Mets historians will recall how former GM Frank Cashen declared, ““those who contribute the least spray the most champagne” after being doused by reliever Randy Niemann during the 1986 NLCS championship celebration. I think it’s time to take that mantra when it comes to Jordany Valdespin, except those that contribute the least shouldn’t be made the story. With Twitter...

COLLINS LASHES AT FANS OVER VALDESPIN ISSUE Terry Collins did what no manager should do, especially one with a career losing record likely to be made a scapegoat for what figures to be the Mets’ fifth consecutive losing season. Found: Guts In Mets Clubhouse

Finally, guts. LaTroy Hawkins has been around a long time. He has forgotten more about clubhouse protocol than most Mets will ever know. Yes, we’re talking again about Jordany Valdespin, this time Hawkins’ take on the matter to national baseball writer Bob Nightengale. Nightengale has been around a long time. He knows the ropes, and after years of living in Minneapolis developed...

Mets Wrap: Routed By Cardinals

As the Knicks were getting pasted in Indianapolis, the Mets did their part to put New York sports fans in a gloomy mood in tonight’s 10-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. It was the Mets’ fifth straight loss to drop them to eight games under .500. Since Jordany Valdespin’s tenth-inning grand slam, April 24, beat the Dodgers to go to 10-9, the Mets have gone 4-13. GEE: Ripped...
