If Bobby Valentine is attempting to endear himself to Red Sox Nation, he’s started off on the right foot. The 45th manager in Red Sox history took a page out of Curt Schilling’s book in a media session today in Dallas at the Winter Meetings. Valentine stated: “I hate the Yankees. I don’t want to waste this valuable time talking about the Yankees. This is too valuable.” The Sox’ manager then paused for a second and appeared to read an imaginary headline out loud, “I hate the Yankees.”
If you recall, during Curt Schilling’s introductory press conference in November of 2003, he took a seat at the podium and offered this to reporters: “Well, I guess I hate the Yankees now.”
The first Red Sox-Yankees game of the season will be at Fenway Park on April 20th. If you weren’t excited before, I’m willing to bet you are now.
