St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Jon Jay has been playing an incredible defensive center field all season for the Cardinals. In fact, he may be one of the best defensive center fielders in the National League. Some, especially St. Louis Cardinals fans and second baseman Daniel Descalso, feel that Jay deserves Gold Glove consideration."He's the best center fielder in the league, in my opinion," Descalso said. "You don't expect anybody to make that play, but he does a great job of positioning himself and getting good breaks on balls. We're spoiled with him out in center."After the play Jay made on Monday night, the boasts by Descalso and Cardinals fans may have some merit.Jay has made huge, highlight reel catches all season, but none of them were as meaningful or as spectacular as the one Jay made in Game 2 of the National League Division Series against the Washington Nationals. Jaime Garcia reportedly will be removed from NLDS roster; Cardinals furious

The Cardinals reportedly plan to remove pitcher Jaime Garcia from their NLDS roster because of a shoulder problem, and his teammates are said to be furious with him over the issue. Garcia missed over two months of the season from June-August because of a shoulder injury that landed him on the 60-day disabled list. He pitched fairly well upon returning from the DL, lowering his season...

Cardinals Injury News: Lance Berkman, Jake Westbrook

Though Lance Berkman wasn’t able to return from his knee injury in time to be included on the St. Louis Cardinals’ National League Division Series roster, the veteran did offer words of encouragement to his team as they take on the Washington Nationals. "I just feel like, a lot of times, these games are about attitude, about the way you carry yourself.” Berkman said...

NLDS Game 2: Come On Out And Get Your Whuppin'

#Natitude. Lulz. Have you met our little friend Carlos Beltran? Doesn't look like it because he completely wrecked your face. In fact, somebody check and make sure Jordan Zimmerman got on the NOT Happy Flight home, because he might still be shivering in a corner somewhere underneath Busch Stadium. Oh, and Jon Jay. Don't even think about forgetting Jon Jay....

Cardinals' Garcia set for start in his home comfort zone

St. Louis Cardinals left-hander Jaime Garcia, who suffered an 8-1 setback at Washington on Aug. 30, will start Game 2 of the National League Division Series against the Nationals on Monday. This time, he'll be pitching at Busch Stadium, where he tends to be much more successful. Garcia, who had come off the disabled list after recovering from shoulder soreness not long before...

Beltran provides spark for Cards in NLDS

ST. LOUIS Sometimes, gunpowder needs a little flash. Carlos Beltran's bat has been a musket for most of his 15-year career despite fading late this summer, and a few bullet points on his regular-season resume reveal why.He has launched at least 22 home runs 10 times. He has produced at least 100 RBI eight times. He has surpassed an on-base percentage of .350 eight times. His...

Jay's leaping grab robs Espinosa of extra bases

In the top of the sixth inning of Monday's NL Division Series game between the Nationals and Cardinals, St Louis center fielder Jon Jay made a pretty incredible catch in center field. Washington second baseman Danny Espinosa hit a drive to deep left center, and Jay immediately got on his horse tracking the ball to the wall. Without a moment to even time his jump, Jay threw himself...

Jackson hoping to corral Cardinals in Game 3

Edwin Jackson knew first hand just how good the Cardinals offense can be. He's gotten a couple rough reminders lately. The former Cardinals right-hander will look to slow one of the best offenses in the National League when the two collide in a key Game 3 Wednesday afternoon at Nationals Park in Washington. Jackson joined the Cardinals midway through last season and helped...

Cardinals hit four homers, tie series 1-1

ST. LOUIS - Davey Johnson and the Washington Nationals have got an up-close look at the offense of the St. Louis Cardinals in the past 10 days - and he is getting awfully tired of it. After seeing the Cardinals twice explode for double-digit runs in their series in the final week of the regular season, Johnson had to watch it again, for the third time in a five-game span, in the...

Cardinals rally after short start

Last GameThe Reds had yesterday off to make the trip home, but there was still a game of some interest to the Reds happening. The Cardinals hosted the Nationals for game two of their series. The Cardinals do not have the home-field advantage and had squandered their first chance in front of the “best fans in baseball” so it was particularly urgent to them to get the second game...

Scrabble and the Rookie

At this point, it might not make a whole lot of sense to talk about Sunday’s Game 1 of the Cardinals/Nationals NLDS, since Game 2 is already well underway at this writing. And if we’re going to talk about Sunday’s Game 1, it might not make a whole lot of sense to focus on just one single pitch. Game 1 featured several pitches, dozens of pitches, and each was important. But...
