PLAYERS: Nick Swisher
TEAMS: New York Yankees
Your browser does not support iframes. We know now at least of couple of things after Game Five of the ALDS between the Yankees and Orioles. One, the Bronx Bombers are headed to the ALCS after winning the decisive game, 3-1. And two, Nick Swisher really, really likes eye black. He wanted to make darn sure the glare of the sun didn't get in his eyes on Friday.A few questions arise after seeing this though. Like how sunny could it really be in The Big Apple on a cool day in October? How many sticks of eye black did it take? Or maybe Swisher's copious amount of facial paint more intended for an intimidation factor to his opponent? Either way it worked.

Jeter out for playoffs with fractured ankle

Derek Jeter suffered an ankle injury during the 12th inning against the Tigers and is done for the postseason for the Yankees.

McLouth's controversial hit ruled foul

Your browser does not support iframes. The Orioles missed tying Game 5 of the ALDS against the Yankees by inches when umpires ruled that a fly ball hit by left fielder Nate McLouth was foul.McLouth was batting in the top of the sixth with the Orioles down 1-0 went he blasted a 3-1 pitch deep down the right field line. The ball seemed to be foul, but then it started curving toward...

Jeter breaks ankle, out for postseason

NEW YORK (AP) -- Delirious only minutes earlier, fans at Yankee Stadium sat stunned in utter disbelief while they watched Derek Jeter being helped off the field. Their worst fears were met, too. The durable captain broke his left ankle and is out for the rest of the postseason. Three innings after Raul Ibanez sent the 47,122 in Yankee Stadium into a frenzy with a tying two-run...

Yankees Injury News: Derek Jeter Shows No Sign of Injury

Derek Jeter had to be removed from Game Three of the New York Yankees division series victory over the Baltimore Orioles. He left in the eighth inning after striking out and apparently re-aggravating the bone bruise that has been bothering him for weeks now. However, he was able to play in Game Four, and last night he showed no ill-effects as the Yankees took down the Orioles...

Yankees Injury News: Joba Chamberlain Hit by Bat

Joba Chamberlain had to leave the New York Yankees' loss last night to the Baltimore Orioles after being hit by the barrel of Matt Weiters' bat.  Chamberlain tried to stay in the game after being hit, but the Yankees aired on the side of caution and removed him. According to Dan Connolly of the Balitmore Sun, Chamberlain suffered a contusion from the bat. Xrays neg...

Girardi managing with heavy heart

Joe Girardi's bold move in the ninth inning of a playoff game - pinch hitting Raul Ibanez for Alex Rodriguez - was hailed as courageous and admirable. If only we had known. Jerry Girardi, father of the Yankees manager, died Saturday after suffering from Alzheimer's for several years. His son told few people, never left his team, and managed three postseason games under intense...

50% of The Way To A Russ Martin Printing Plate Rainbow.

I've been stuck on said 50% since I picked up the below sometime early in 2012 or late in 2011. Yeah, it was THAT long ago. Anyhoo, it's an excellent addition to my Russell Martin PC.I have yet to see the other two plates pop. I still don't understand why some plates are reverse negatives and others are not. Oh well. There are lots of things in this world of ours I can...

Yankees: Pitching was the True Story in ALDS

CC Sabathia and the Yankees pitchers carried the team to an ALDS series win. Joe Girardi spent the entire week trying to prove that the Yankees weren’t just another first-round dropout team that collapses under pressure. Controversial moves (mostly centered around Alex Rodriguez) took center stage this week and completely overshadowed what should have been the real story: Yankee...

Yankees lose Jeter to broken ankle as Tigers pull out Game 1

NEW YORK -- Another logic-defying moment for Raul Ibanez and the New York Yankees eventually gave way to a 12-inning defeat to the Detroit Tigers. Even more shocking and devastating to the Yankees than their 6-4 defeat was the season-ending loss of Yankees captain Derek Jeter. One of the greatest postseason players in the game's history was carried off the field with a broken...

Tigers 6, Yankees 4(12)

Delirious only minutes earlier, fans at Yankee Stadium sat stunned in utter disbelief while they watched Derek Jeter being helped off the field, his left leg dangling. Their worst fears were met, too. The durable captain broke his left ankle in the 12th inning of the AL championship series opener on Saturday night and is out for the rest of the postseason. ''It's kind...

ALDS Game 5: Yankees 3, Orioles 1

It wasn't the shutout I said had to happen but it was a complete game win nonetheless. CC Sabathia finished off a great run for Yankee pitchers in the ALDS by allowing just one run on four hits, and walking two and striking out nine.On the other side of the ball, the three runs the Yankees scored felt like ten with the big fella on the mound. But it was the way they scored the...

Expect Yankees manager Joe Girardi to make lineup changes

The Yankees may be forced to make lineup changes for today's deciding game five against the Orioles in the elimination game. They may take Alex Rodriguez and Curtis Granderson out of the starting lineup and replace with Eric Chavez and Raul Ibanez. A-Rod and Granderson have been terrible in this entire series going 3 for 30 combined versus Orioles pitching. That's why...

Column: Day of reckoning had to come for A-Rod

(Eds: With AP Photos.) By TIM DAHLBERG AP Sports Columnist Joe Girardi should be manager of the year just for the guts it took to sit down his $275 million third baseman and help the New York Yankees advance a step closer to the World Series. Benching Alex Rodriguez might turn out to be the easiest move in a drama that is suitable for Broadway, but will play out instead in the Bronx...

Top 10 takeaways from Tigers - Yankees Game One

Seriously, Tiger Fan, Get On This 10) It's somewhat telling that many of the Yankee fans in my social media feeds posted after the Raul Ibanez tying home run in the ninth, but not after the final outcome9) If the Yankees' infield defense improves now that Derek Jeter is out for the year, it's all a testament to his leadership8) Somehow, it just seems really wrong that...
