This catch in right field by Seth Smith of the Oakland A's is one of the best catches I have seen all season.Aaron Hill of the Diamondbacks thought he hit a homer in the second inning on Friday night but Smith leaped up and caught the ball. Smith timed his jump very well and robbed Hill of a home run. Talk about some hops! The Diamondbacks won the game 9-8 thanks to a dramatic three-run homer by Ryan Roberts in the bottom of the ninth inning off A's closer Brian Fuentes.Your browser does not support iframes.

D-backs reinstate Overbay, option Pollock

The Diamondbacks reinstated first baseman Lyle Overbay from the paternity list on Friday after optioning outfielder A.J. Pollock to Triple-A Reno on Thursday to clear a roster spot. The 35-year-old Overbay left the team to be with his wife, Sarah, for the birth of their fourth child, daughter Audrey Lynn, on June 5. The couple also has three sons, Adam, Alex and Luke. Overbay...

Drew lets play speak for itself in rehab debut

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Stephen Drew let his play Thursday answer the criticism leveled at him by managing partner Ken Kendrick, who earlier this week questioned Drews commitment to returning to the Diamondbacks this season. Drew singled in his first at-bat and made the defensive play of the game in his first rehab game for Class AAA Reno against Tucson at the D-backs former spring training...

Roberts' walk-off homer could spark D-backs

PHOENIX -- From early on Friday it appeared the Diamondbacks were in for a long night, buried by starter Daniel Hudson's six-run second inning. Little by little, though, the D-backs dug out, and third baseman Ryan Roberts gave the team a moment to build on. Roberts' three-run walk off home run in the ninth inning sent the D-backs to their third straight win, 9-8 over the...

D-backs look to stay hot as A's come to town

Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson has benched the struggling Justin Upton for three of the last five games, and it may only be a coincidence his squad has won each contest Upton has sat out. Whatever the reason, Arizona is hot. The Diamondbacks seek their fifth win in their last six contests in Friday night's opener of a three-game set with the visiting Oakland Athletics, who...

Arizona SS Drew makes rehab start

Arizona shortstop Stephen Drew singled in his first at-bat and made a tough sliding grab of a foul ball in his first ''real'' game since a brutal ankle injury nearly 11 months ago. Drew made his first rehab start for Triple-A Reno on Thursday night, going 1 for 4 against Tucson. He called it ''a good day and something to build off of.'' Drew'...

It's been a letdown for Upton and D-backs

The Diamondbacks won the 2011 National League West in large part because of timely hitting, a strong bullpen and a major league-best 48 comeback victories, all driven by career years from a half-dozen major contributors. The D-backs are struggling to get over .500 this season because many of those years have not been repeated, although injuries to key components cannot be discounted...

Cahill, Parker face off for first time since trade

The Arizona Diamondbacks can hardly complain about Trevor Cahill after the right-hander pitched a shutout in his last start. They're probably feeling at least a little regret, however, about what they gave up to get him. Cahill and red-hot Oakland Athletics rookie Jarrod Parker square off Saturday night at Chase Field in an intriguing matchup of pitchers who were traded for...

PHOENIX (AP) -- Miguel Montero hit his second career grand slam and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Oakland Athletics 8-3 on Saturday night for their fourth consecutive victory.
