Vin Scully will no longer be calling Los Angeles Dodgers games in Colorado this season as the revered announcer scales back his workload entering his 63rd season with the team. The 84-year-old Hall of Famer will broadcast all home and road games the Dodgers play in California and Arizona, which adds up to more than 100 games, the team said Saturday in a release of its 2012 broadcast schedule. Scully calls all nine innings of the team's television broadcasts, while the first three innings of his games are simulcast on the radio. He works alone on the air and long ago reduced his travel schedule to avoid calling games east of the Rockies. Scully's years of service with the Dodgers make him the longest tenured broadcaster in sports history.

Wright ready to help any way he can

GLENDALE, Ariz. At the age of 37, having spent the bulk of the past 16 years in the big leagues, Jamey Wright finds himself a non-roster invitee to spring training again. This is the seventh spring in a row that Wright has accepted an invite, no guarantees attached, and the Los Angeles Dodgers are the sixth team in that seven-year stretch to bring Wright to camp for a look-see...

Spring Training battles emerging, plus roster cuts and ownership news

The Dodgers made their second round of Spring Training cuts today, reassigning Jeff Baisley, Gorman Erickson, Matt Wallach and Lance Zawadzki to minor league camp. The Dodgers also gave Alberto Castillo his outright release.Absolutely no surprises here. The only two of note in the group are Erickson and Wallach. Erickson will likely begin the season in Chattanooga with the Lookouts...

Stow to pursue Dodgers case after sale

Attorneys for San Francisco Giants fan Bryan Stow will not impede the sale of the Los Angeles Dodgers, agreeing Friday to recover any damages from the team's insurance policies after the ballclub emerges from bankruptcy. Stow, who suffered severe brain injuries in a brutal attack outside Dodger Stadium on Opening Day last season, will now pursue his case against the team in...

The Richest Man in LA Joins Forces with Other Rich Guys in Bidding for Dodgers

Magic Johnson has to be bummed this evening as, per the all-knowing Bill Shaikin, Patrick Soon-Shiong (also known as the Richest Man in LA and part owner of the Los Angeles Lakers) has chosen to join billionaire Steve Cohen’s bid to buy the Dodgers.  Cohen’s a relative unknown in LA, so adding Soon-Shiong adds some LA muscle to his bid, and most likely some added cash to at...

Rangers lose to Dodgers' 3-run homer

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly figures his batting order on opening day will look a lot like what he tried Friday. He hopes the result will be familiar, too. The Dodgers started their expected lineup for the first time in spring training and beat the Texas Rangers 5-2 in a game that included a three-run homer by James Loney and a fielding gem by...

Los Angeles Dodgers 2012 Season Preview: Catcher

When the list of Hall Of Fame catchers in Los Angeles Dodgers history is taken into consideration – Roy Campanella & Mike Piazza (not to mention the good showings of Russell Martin & Paul LoDuca) – the recent state of the backstop position in Los Angeles becomes even more depressing. The future in Carlos Santana

Los Angeles Dodgers Spring Training Notes: Ivan De Jesus & Matt Guerrier Injuries, 8 Cut

The recent injury to Ivan De Jesus isn’t likely to affect his standing on the roster, as he was due to be cut anyway, but it is disappointing for somebody who only really made it back from a serious injury last year. The Dodgers won’t know for certain the extent of Ivan De Jesus’ oblique

Big news, Dodgers fans. Hello Kitty Bobblehead Day at Dodger Stadium is July 1. Joe Mathews Discusses the Vin Scully Dilemma

One of my friends from high school, Joe Mathews, wrote an entertaining piece todayover at Zocalo Public Square on the future of Vin Scully. It’s a tongue-in-cheek memo from “the future” spelling out the potential tragedy of Vin’s ultimate retirement from the club and the need for public action to maximize the potential for a positive replacement. Here are his five “suggested”...

Angels 1, Dodgers 1(6)

On a wet, chilly day that even included some hail, the Angels' Dan Haren and the Dodgers' Chris Capuano managed to get their work in. ''That was uncomfortable for everybody, but it was the same for both teams,'' Haren said after Sunday's 5 1/2-inning, 1-1 tie between the Los Angeles rivals. Haren was perfect through three innings before giving up a run...

Dodgers Prospect Preview: Middle Infielders

The Dodgers brought up one of their most exciting prospects to date, Dee Gordon, last year and he gave fans a reason to be excited. Unfortunately, with his departure from the farm system, LA's minor league ranks are very thin on prospects up the middle. Are there any players who can establish themselves in 2012 as the next Dee Gordon?

Breaking Down Who Will Own the Los Angeles Dodgers

By the end of April, the Los Angeles Dodgers will have a new owner after one of four bidders kicks up enough green to make the sale the highest in North American history surpassing the $1.1 billion that Stephen Ross paid for the Miami Dolphins. And while it’s been widely reported that Magic Johnson has the highest bid at $1.6 billion, hedge-fund magnate Steven Cohen has set...
