With Truck Day (literally) in the rear view mirror and players already reporting early to Fort Myers, a new Red Sox season is nearly upon us.
Everyone knows that 2012 did not go as planned for Boston, and while injuries played a big part in the Sox’ subpar season, it was largely a pitching staff that wasn’t up to snuff that doomed the season. This year, however, with former pitching coach John Farrell returning to Fenway as manager, the Sox seem to have a feeling that this year will be different.
Heading into the Grapefruit League, Boston’s five starting pitchers seem to be set. Jon Lester, Clay Buchholz, Ryan Dempster, John Lackey and Felix Doubront are slated for the No. 1 through 5 slots, and quite possibly in that order. So, barring any spring injuries, we have a pretty good idea what the rotation will look like.
But who will win the most games?
Lester is looking for a return to his former ace-like form, while Buchholz will attempt to avoid a second consecutive year of early sea...

John Farrell recently said it looked as if John Lackey had lost 12 to 15 pounds. The Red Sox skipper might be underselling him a bit.
The Boston Globe’s Peter Abraham and ESPN’s Gordon Edes both tweeted photos of Lackey playing catch down in Fort Myers on Thursday, and it’s safe to say that the right-hander really has shed some weight. In fact, Lackey has never looked so thin...
Curt Schilling rocked the baseball world when he claimed a member of the Red Sox organization encouraged him to use performance-enhancing drugs back in 2008. Among those surprised was Red Sox president Larry Luchino, who responded to the news on Thursday.
“Certainly [the allegation] is something to look into, but it came from out of left field, to use a baseball cliche,” Lucchino...
John Lackey missed all of 2012, but he’s confident that 2013 will be a big bounce-back year. That confidence is apparently contagious, as Lackey’s manager and teammates have also had nothing but good things to say about the right-hander as he gets set to try and silence his critics.
Clay Buchholz spoke down in Fort Myers about a number of topics, including his health, the arrival...
2013 Fantasy Preview: Boston Red Sox
This team will need to wear name tags for the first few weeks of spring training, because the offseason turnover was astounding. Necessary, but astounding nonetheless.
Traded for RP Joel Hanrahan
Don't be fooled by the save numbers. Hanrahan has shutdown stuff, but walked 36 batters in 59 2/3 innings last season as the...
The Boston Red Sox have been one of the many teams tied to
free agent Kyle Lohse, but it’s “highly unlikely” the right-hander reaches an
agreement with the team, according to Rob Bradford of WEEI.com.
According to a major league source, however, it is “highly
unlikely” the Red Sox will be locking up the top free agent pitcher still on
The Red Sox announced Tuesday that Dana Levangie has been named the team’s new bullpen coach.
Levangie replaces Gary Tuck, who retired last week after six seasons with the organization. Levangie, 43, has spent the past seven seasons serving as a major league advance scout with the Red Sox, and he also will continue to assist in advance scouting going forward.
This isn’t the first...
This year will include another season-long celebration around Fenway Park.
The Red Sox and the Jimmy Fund will be celebrating the 60th anniversary of their partnership in 2013. It’s the latest milestone in what has been a productive and storied relationship between the organization and the Boston-based charity.
Red Sox president and CEO Larry Lucchino, manager John Farrell, third...
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher John Lackey is set to enter
spring training without restrictions, while designated hitter David Ortiz
continues to recover from an injured right Achilles tendon that sidelined him
for a majority of 2012.
Lackey underwent reconstructive elbow surgery 15 months ago
and has recovered to the point where he’s entering camp without restrictions...
It is nearly 1,500 miles from Fenway Park to the team’s spring training facility in Fort Myers, but only if you take the fastest route.
With the Red Sox equipment truck heading south, with some time to spare until pitchers and catchers report, it might be a good idea to take a couple detours to take in the sights. After all, a road trip isn’t a road trip without some unexpected...
The Red Sox’ rotation looks pretty much set for 2013, but with Kyle Lohse still available in free agency, there have been some rumblings about whether Boston should make a play for the reigning 16-game winner. It looks like it’s time to pump the brakes on those rumors.
According to WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford, a major league source said that it is “highly unlikely” the Red...
A.B. There’s a fine line between homer apparel and pink hat apparel. The kid wearing a pre-faded Old Navy Boston Red Sox shirt is a pink-hat. The kid wearing the same faded shirt, except it was made by Jerzees in 1985, is a die hard Sox fan. To a casual observer they are both blue, both faded and both have the Red Sox B. But one went through Buckner, Boggs and Beckett – the other...
So, this Biogenesis scandal is really getting out of hand, and Curt Schilling added more fuel to the fire with his comments today that the Red Sox encouraged him to use PEDs.
When the original details of Anthony Bosch’s anti-aging clinic were released a couple weeks ago, we saw names that weren’t surprising, such as Bartolo Colon, Melky Cabrera, and Yasmani Grandal. There were...
Never being one to shy away from the media spotlight or keep his damn mouth closed, Curt Schilling made headlines once again on Wednesday when he told ESPN Radio that in 2008 “former members of the [Red Sox] organization” told him performance-enhancing drugs were an option to help him get healthy and extend his career.
Schilling, who had signed a one-year contract...
With Spring Training less than a month away, the Red Sox 40 Man
Roster should be fairly set until the end of camp. I'll take this
opportunity to review the entire roster. Lets face it, there's not much
else going on.
Let's Hope Hanrahan isn't staring this direction too much in 2013.
After Andrew Bailey lost most of 2012 to injury, and then was awful when...
Curt Schilling loves stirring the pot. That much is definitely true. But occasionally, his pot stirring ends up having some merit. So you can’t completely roll your eyes when he gives us his opinion on certain matters.
Now Schilling giving his opinion on a matter is one thing, but him discussing something that supposedly happened to him personally is another. And that’s what...
