Thursday night saw three extra inning games, but the afternoon game started the day with a bang. Adam Wainwright out dueled Matt Harvey to earn his MLB leading 10th win. Jacoby Ellsbury stole his MLB leading 30th base of the season for the Red Sox. Yu Darvish struck out nine, but suffered a no decision; his 127 strikeouts leads the majors.Cardinals 2 v Mets 1: Adam Wainwright out duels Matt Harvey to earn his MLB leading 10th win. Wainwright pitched seven innings of zero run ball, only allowing four hits and two walks. Matt Harvey pitched seven innings and gave up one run on five hits and one walk, while striking out seven. Edward Mujica gave up a run in the ninth, but hung on to earn his 19th save. Pete Kozma hit a double and Matt Carpenter legged out a triple for the Cardinals Marlon Byrd hit a home run for the Mets (St. Louis won the series 2-1).Reds 5 v Cubs 6: Julio Borbon hit a walk-off RBI single in the 14th inning to lead the Cubs past the Reds. To prevent the four game sweep Mat Latos gave up four runs over six innings for the Reds. Jeff Samardzija gave up five earned runs over six innings for the Cubs. David DeJesus hit a home run for the Cubs and Starlin Castro stole two bases. Jay Bruce had four hits for the Reds, including a double (Cincinnati won the series 3-1).Nationals 5 v Rockies 4: Ross Detwiler pitched five innings and gave up three earned runs for the Nationals. Rafael Soriano gave up one earned run, but earned his 17th save of the season. Jeff Francis gave up two earned runs and struck out eight over six innings for the Rockies. Ian Desmond had four hits and Ryan Zimmerman blasted a home run for the Nationals. Dexter Fowler, Michael Cuddyer, and DJ LeMahieu had doubles for the Rockies (Washington won the series 2-1).Yankees 2 v Athletics 3: Nate Freiman hit a walk-off RBI single to lead the Athletics past the Yankees in this 18 inning grinder to complete their three game sweep. Yankees starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda and Athletics Jarrod Parker deserved better fates, both tossing two run ball over eight innings.  Robinson Cano hit two doubles and a home run for the Yankees. Seth Smith hit a double for the Athletics (Oakland swept the series 3-0). Giants 10 v Pirates 0: Matt Cain pitched 6.2 scoreless innings and only allowed two hits. Buster Posey, Brandon Belt, Nick Noonan, and Gregor Blanco hit doubles and Hunter Pence swatted a home run for the Giants. Andrew McCutchen’s double was the lone extra base hit for the Pirates (Pittsburgh won the series 2-1).Royals 10 v Rays 1: Ervin Santana pitched 7.2 innings and gave up zero earned runs on five hits and zero walks for the Royals. Jeremy Hellickson was rocked again, surrendering eight runs and ten hits over 5.2 innings.  Lorenzo Cain, Alcides Escobar, and Miguel Tejada hit doubles and Elliot Johnson and Eric Hosmer hit home runs for the Royals. Luke Scott hit a double for the Rays (Kansas City leads the series 1-0).Blue Jays 3 v Rangers 1: Esmil Rogers pitched seven innings of one run ball for the Blue Jays. Yu Darvish was just as effective, giving up one earned run on three hits and two walks, while striking out nine. Casey Janssen pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his 14th save. Maicer Izturis and Edwin Encarnacion hit doubles and Emilio Bonifacio stole a base for the Blue Jays. Nelson Cruz hit a home run for the Rangers (Toronto leads the series 1-0).Phillies 3 v Twins 2: Cliff Lee earned his eighth win of the season, tossing seven innings and allowing two runs on three hits for the Phillies. Jonathan Papelbon struck out two in the ninth to earn his 12th save. Kevin Correia pitched five innings and gave up one run for the Twins. Ben Revere hit a triple and stole a base for the Phillies. Justin Morneau hit a double for the Twins (Minnesota won the series 2-1).Red Sox 4 v Orioles 5: Chris Davis continues to impress, hitting the walk-off RBI single in the 13th inning. Kevin Gausman pitched 5.1 innings and gave up two runs on six hits for the Orioles. Danny Valencia hit a double and a home run for the Orioles. David Ortiz and Mike Carp hit home runs for the Red Sox and Jacoby Ellsbury stole his 30th base (Baltimore leads the series 1-0).
