Right-handed pitcher Waldis Joaquin has cleared waivers after he and outfielder Darren Ford were left unprotected by the Giants on Nov. 18 — the date team had to make final revisions to their 40-man rosters in preparation for the Rule 5 draft next week.

Joaquin has been down this road before. The Giants waived him last year at this time, too, and the Chicago White Sox scooped him up — only to release him a week later.

Joaquin, 24, has spent most of his short career in the Giants’ minor league system so far, but has pitched in 19 games for the parent club since 2009.

He was 2-2 with a 3.44 ERA, 1.530 WHIP, 4.9 SO/9 rate, and 4.2 BB/9 rate in 49.2 innings at Triple-A Fresno last year. He appeared in five games for San Francisco, compiling a 4.26 ERA in 6.1 innings.

Now that he has cleared waivers, the Giants can now try and re-sign Joaquin to a minor league contract.

I have yet to read any news on Ford’s situation yet.
